  • “Real-time data fusion provides actionable information to fight Wildfires.” Maynooth University in collaboration with the Irish Air Corps and key multi-agency stakeholders (Wicklow Fire Service, NPWS & Coillte) have developed a highly automated Common Operational Picture platform (COPilot-AI). COPilot-AI enables satellite, aerial, drone & mobile-device data-streams to be captured and shared in real-time. This reduces risk and enables a coordinated response by aerial crews, fire-fighting teams and NPWS personnel. Innovative services include real-time water-resource management, intelligent ‘over the hill’ image-maps and fire-line progress predictions.
COPilot-AI addresses the significant societal, economic and environmental impacts arising from Wildfires, by enabling multiple agencies to pool and share data for improved tactical decision-making. The platform can also be rapidly re-configured to tackle other Emergency Events (Flooding, Storm damage, Landslides) - not only in Ireland - but also across the globe.
    CoPilot-AI (copilotai.ie/) is a Science Foundation Ireland & Defence Organisation Challenge (Grant No. 21/FIP/DO/9945) Project. #ai #wildfires#earthobservation #drones #machinelearning #azurecloud #geospatial #sensors #comms #research #emergencymanagement #emergencyresponse #sfi

Great to see this type of co-operation and technical advancement involving academia and various services, and in particular the benefits the military bring to society with their capability. That said, of all the professionals involved in this initiative, the military personnel are probably the worst paid, by far. That really should be addressed. Dedication should not be exploited, nurses being another example. It should be rewarded.
