    Probably one of the more comprehensive choke adjust vids made. Very well said the heat soak can frustrate ya. In the Northeast however fully closed may not even do it on them zero degree mornings. The humidity here really affects the Ethenol fuels in the winter so that does not bother fuel injection much because of the high fuel pressure but on say a carb with a fuel regulator you can be into a challenge in the winter just to get the vehicle to start.

    thank you for explaining this is such simple terms. I followed your directions and they led to my successful diagnosis of a choke issue I`ve been fighting for 3 months. "3 months man. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry". I have been having an issue with the fast idle as well. I feel like it should kick in right away but it doesn't. it takes a long time. tonight while following your directions I found that the fast idle cam isn't setting when I push the throttle in all the way. Its also only idling at about 900 on the fast idle cam vs the 1600 I`ve read it should. I'm going to adjust that and see what we get.

      @David-fl4xw Před rokem

      How did it turn out do you remember? I also thought mine should set in immediately but it doesn’t. It eventually did get up to 1300 at one point but before it would start and only idle at 500-400 just to eventually die. Then I had to mess with my curb idle to get it to idle which obviously isn’t good.

    I had an electric choke installed on my 1850. It has not worked as expected. After going through these steps twice, I may have discovered a couple problems. My fast idle screw (BTW a real pain to get to) cannot make contact with the red cam. The bracket or linkage the fast idle screw is threaded into does not line up with the cam. This bracket also rubs on the electric choke housing when it moves. Am I missing the correct fast idle parts?

    Brand new out of the box 4160 vacume secondary electric choke. Car is running great but fast idle. Tried adjusting everything. olly tech. Suggested extra spring on trottle. Didn't work. I would re adjust the idle. Once I started shifting gears and got to the Red light. Idle jumps up. My mechanic after 4 days of racking his brain finally removed the spring from the idle screw and pulled it apart slightly to create more tension. Problem solved.

      I had the same problem and did not know it until I watched this video. My solution was to take the choke off the side (I pulled the Carb from the eng.) and layed it on the side and found the red cam lever in behind had skipped over the shaft coming out of the choke causing it to be stuck. I put it back into place and noted that it was stiff so I got out some jigaloo lubricant and sprayed all the joints and it all works fine now. Adjusting the PITA high idle is the real issue for me now.

    Just an FYI. Don’t open up throttle at all to retighten screw on cam. If you tighten the screw while throttle is pulled open, it’ll set your fast idle at that high idle setting. Once you have the desired rpm. Just manually close choke and set fast idle screw to cam. Lawd

      @@David-fl4xw becayse it the throttle is open by hand you don’t know what Rpm you’re at, and if you fasten fast idle to that opening you can essentially start your car and be at 2500 rpm with choke on.

    • @David-fl4xw
      @David-fl4xw Před rokem

      @@Se7enthsonSS ahh so it basically will double the fast idle cam. Gotcha. So just exclude holding the throttle open? The rest of the steps are okay to follow right? Thank you. I’ve been having an issue where I’ve been having to use the curb idle screw to even get the car to idle on cold start. Cold start, choke set correctly, idles at 500 drops to 400 then eventually dies out. So I’m assuming the “factory fast idle cam settings” are way off? I’ve only had it idle up to 1300 once, and that’s because I had turned the curb idle up, and then backed it off to let it do its thing.

      @@Se7enthsonSS oh I gotcha. So I assume when he opens it he’s checking the relationship between the cam and screw and probably off camera letting go of the throttle and then adjusting the screw? I’m still new to this stuff. Not even sure if my idle cam
