  • This New American Suicide Drone Shocked Russia.
    Warfare is evolving alongside technology. In every century, new tactics and weapons have advanced warfare into almost a technological arms race. Wars were fought by hand, then by swords, guns, tanks, aircrafts and the newest form of technological warfare is by drones. Drones have become a symbol of 21st century warfare and it’s gaining popularity among developed countries involved in conflict. They have become powerful tools of destruction because of its ability to be a localized, undetected, and miniature weaponized aircraft. They’re so appealing to militarized governments around the world because they can be remotely controlled and lessen the risk of losing life… that is to the country who operates it. The best part is your target will not see it coming and by the time they realize what’s happening, it’s too late. Warfare technology has evolved and drones are the new weapons of choice.

      You can't really preprogram a mission with a tank like you can a drone sortie. And real time operation either requires being very close to the battlefield which kind of defeats the point, or there will be lag, which you really don't want in a tank. You can deal with time lag a lot easier with an aerial drone with much longer times to target and more time to adjust and compensate for input delay, as well as some degree of automation. Also, you would still effectively have to build a full tank just without a crew compartment. With a drone you can build cheap and tiny, with no armor. A drone tank would still need armor and would still be almost as expensive as a manned tank. Which defeats the purpose of drones. We'd also need to use autoloaders instead of crew loading, which is slower and leaves your ammo more open to being hit and detonating as Russia tank autoloaders have proven. Also drone tanks are still tanks and would still require infantry support. You'd still need humans on the battlefield with the tanks anyways, why not put some in the tank too?
      So yeah, there are plenty of good reasons why drone tanks aren't a thing.

    i wonder, have you heard about the attacks overseas that didn't use explosives but used cutting blades on a missile? i wonder if it is simply another version of the switchblade? it would make sense.. another version of the 600 type that instead of a munitions it uses a "switchblade" style of blades to cut a single target... 3 or 4 incidents were reported in the video i watched about it...but i mean IF it was a loitering munition like these, then it would only take a single person within 20-60 miles of a target... launching it from a location or vehicle.... thou when i look at other videos on the feed here... for all i know it could be from another version of the javalin... i mean those fins in back... could be replaced with blades right?. idk its just what popped into my head... it would make sense thou, the targets the video had on it were all when the targets where in vehicles and the weapon didn't blow up, killed the target from above... so like a javalin in that regard maybe... anyhow was happy to share something... peace.

    I would think a flatbed truck with set of a dozen switchblade 600 launchers mounted in the rear would be quite useful. The driver could cruise around 15 miles behind the 'front line' and move to wherever enemy tanks or artillery are active, and the passenger could launch and control one switchblade at a time until they run out of stock and return the base for a reload and refuel. Having two guys in a $50K truck carrying $70K worth of switchblades that could potentially destroy or damage a dozen 'cheap' T-72s costing $500K each would be pretty asymmetric. The training time would also be about 1 day. And logistics of driving such a loaded/prepped truck from the Polish border to the Donbas front would be relatively self-contained and simple (It's only a two day drive from Lviv to the Donetsk area).

You estimate which grid they will be in 7 minutes from now, and launch 24 of these from (2) M270s. No operators. No links. Send them up, they glide to the chosen grid, find the targets, prioritize them, and take them out. 7 minutes later no more enemy.

    • @AllTradesGeorge
      @AllTradesGeorge Před 2 lety +3

      @@shooter7a the whole point is that they are cheap. Dozens or hundreds of them can be churned out for the cost of single, larger munitions. They're so simple that you can teach almost anyone to use them in about an hour. And they're easily portable. You don't need a special launch platform...the Switchblade can be launched as easily as launching a mortar round, without the need for dialing in coordinates or worrying about windage.
      There's always going to be a need for big, complex munitions. While a Switchblade may be effective against an individual tank, truck, gun emplacement, etc, it's not designed to attack hardened emplacements or reinforced bunkers.

Much of what is being explored with "swarm" function of drones would be to use them to protect ships / bombers / even fighters from use of stuff like hyper-sonic missles. Remember when Iran captured a US drone some years ago? Apparently it was by hacking it with phantom signals and causing it to land. Hopefully the US has learned somethign from that incident. And also hopefully they are taking much care with these 600 units to make sure that they don't make it into Chinese (or Russian) hands by way of the black market.

    • @AllTradesGeorge
      @AllTradesGeorge Před 2 lety

      I would imagine, unless you know exactly the frequency and/or direction of the drone, any jamming signal you use is likely to jam your own equipment, as well. It's not like you can leave a signal jammer running 24/7, if you're also trying to carry out operations. You need the same bandwidth for your own communications and radio-operated gear. The trick is jamming them without jamming yourself. If you know the wavelength their signal is on, you can try broadcasting noise to disrupt the signal, or boost signal strength of your own to take control of the drone, hypothetically (and assuming the drone hasn't already gone into a terminal guidance phase and is still listening for a signal.) If you know the direction, you can transmit a broad range of 'noise' to disrupt signals, but you run the risk of interfering with your own operations unless you're using highly directional, high-beam equipment, but the more focused the beam, the harder it is to actually lock onto the drone and stay locked. That problem is compounded when you're talking about small drones, because you have to find them, first...

    With respect, I don't think the US were the first to use drones for combat.
    On 9th June 1982, Israel launched a squad of Mastiff RPV (remotely piloted vehicles) in order to trick the Syrian anti-aircraft missile batteries into switching on their targeting systems as they believed the drones to be an incoming squadron of Israeli fighter jets.
    Once they switched on these systems, the drones relayed their location back to command and control, whom then targeted and destroyed the Syrian air defence batteries.
    Israel had developed and deployed drones previously, but I believe that this may have been the first time they were used in combat to identify and locate the AA batteries to enable their targeting and destruction.
