    I renovated a 4mm model tramway I built in the 1990s using grooved nickel silver rail. It was a joy to construct those rails and encase them in a resin roadway. I have never seen such drawn NS rails since; surely even the Chinese could produce them...they look so good.

      I remember the old monochrome BBC pictures taken at model railway shows-1950s, I guess, accompanied with stock 'wallpaper music' and the models racing round at terrifying speed. I imagined the passengers being flung over to the opposite side and subject to excessive g forces when suddenly stopping.
