What a find! 90s Cats are the best. And a TC! Steve Preks Marina axle, I have one on mine. Steve's current business is Tracksport selling gear kits and transmission upgrades. There is an authoritative article on Ital /Marina diffs, The Ital Axle Debate, by Graham Skykes.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find the article and look up Tracksport. The few miles I've driven have been fun. Currently the only think holding me back from driving it for real is carburetor tuning and getting the car registered for road use. I'm working my way through both.

Oh I agree that fuel pump and braided AN...Too much. There may have been certain race safety rules to abide by when the car was built, but with the bladder out, all that is null.
A properly earthed quiet running rotary low psi unit is well suited and with a 3-4 psi verified, the regulator is redundant. More fuel filters will be brtter than regulation.

It certainly does look like the previous owner was building a track car. I'm planning to use the car on fun twisty roads and for autocross. The fuel system is working fine at the moment but I am planning to add a fuel filter at some point.

Hello! Good to see you are making progress. 👍 If I could offer a couple of observations in the honest hope to help. The bellhousing is not exactly the correct one for the year of Caterham you have there. The starter should be on the other side. I'm working on the same year as you have, right now and the starter is on the exhaust side. Your options are to machine away the "Bump" behind the starter or swap to the "Ford Sierra/Type 9" bellhousing. 1/4" clearance simply isn't enough in real world conditions. Be careful to get the "SINGLE" starter motor type bellhousing and NOT the Ford RS2000 one which has two options for the starter installation. I would also suggest that you run a separate earth wire from your fuel pump because as you have it now, the 12v energy you have powering the pump and earthing through the body panel, will cause electrolytic corrosion to form and the pump will stop working pretty quickly. It will also rot out the chassis very quickly too. Talking of your fuel pump, in the long term, an SU vintage type pump would be a great investment because you will have constant problems with the one you have there. They are great pumps if you have a huge V* engine but the little Lotus twin can only needs a max pressure of 3 psi and the one you have fitted is way too powerful. The pressure regulator is a complexity that you can do without. Anyway, it all looks hopeful for the future, good luck!

Thank you for your advice and encouragement.
I'm not exactly sure if a Sierra 9" bell housing is available in the US. I will have to investigate further. That said, perhaps the easiest will be to machine the bump to gain the clearance I need. Regarding the fuel pump, I do have a pressure regulator so it is a simple matter of adjusting the fuel pressure to something closer to 3 PSI. I take your point regarding the earth for the fuel pump. Here I see I can either run an earth wire to the battery or maybe running it to the steel frame of the car. I suspect this will avoid the electrolytic corrosion you mentioned.
Thank you again for your advice. I very much appreciate it.

@@rob_esser There are plenty of folks in GB making Ford bellhousings and I am sure that they can send one to you. Fedex or dhl a better option at the moment as there are brexit customs problems and brexit strikes at present). This is a T9 gearbox?.

I think you need a 3D model of your car to ease the changes and evaluate different solutions.
