And he's still being portrayed out of character. Unless of course his personality remains partially altered by the insanity he suffered before his demise. Anyone who played WC3 and knew Kael before all this, knows that he was both determined and humble. A good Elf who gradually faltered under the pressure of a leadership role that he never wanted. @@justinwallace269 I totally agree. I miss the original Kael from W3 who was an amazing character you could really get behind.
I'm sorry they're treating him like this.
The only hope I see is that they have enough awareness ot realize that this is not actually him but only some rest possession or something.
I also don't like the fact that he started insisting on calling himself the "Sun King".
I hope they're tracking back to his actual characterisation, even if it's in a way where they don't have to openly admit their mistakes in TBC (making him a raid boss and writing around that decision). If that really can't be retconned at all, sure, whatever, just make him the awesome anti-hero again and write around that decision.
I'm just really afraid that at this point they retconned his entire character to fit their weird decisions and clichés about him. It seems almost like they'd like us to forget, and accept.

Also I really liked the Dream Team of Illidan, Kael, and Vashj. We got to see way too little of them but they were truly awesome and looking great together. The true outsiders in Outland.

@@glanni Indeed, I totally agree that's exactly what they're doing. This is the problem when they switch up (arbitrarily layoff) writers and don't keep track of their own lore. Blizzard has always had a halfhearted devotion to consistency in their writing, but it's only getting worse the more Activision puts money ahead of art.
This is honestly one of the reasons I quit WoW earlier this month and decided to dedicate that time to writing my own books. I've had enough of living in their universe where they don't respect their own characters or the fans. That and outdated gameplay and endless grind has become tedious to me.

Man i really wish they never did what they did with Kael'thas. Blood elf campaign from Frozen Throne is still one my favorite gaming moments, especially the first two chapters, Kael'thas fighting with what's left of his people to reclaim the future and pride of his people, while having to deal with awful circumstances outside his control, i wish his story didn't get so tangled up with Illidan's but i guess he didn't have a choice, only wish they didn't turn him into badly made clone of Arthas.

It didn't make a lot of sense to group everyone on two teams, I think that's probably where they missed out the most, but if they ever consider making a "new" WoW, creating more factions, and giving more agency to the different races would've been really nice. I dont think they even give him his redemption, hes still just being emasculated and spanked. The writing teams have really shat on Kael'thas and I am thankful they have tried to inject him back in to try to wrap up and resolve that sloppy writing, but they either need to stop or actually give him justice, this half-attempt where he's emasculated is killing me. Maybe its just me - i feel like they even emasculate Thrall in this expansion. For those that don't know the history, Kael'thas is a hero. He was studying in Dalaran when Arthas killed his father. He is a shy, benevolent, caring prince. He raced home and blew up the Sunwell to stop the scourge from pouring through, saving the Eastern Kingdoms but sentencing his own people to mana starvation. Boats of fleeing belf children were sunk and 90% of his people were slaughtered. He moved to strike back at the scourge with his last handful of fighters and Garithos, the epic racist who hates all who are non-human, sent him alone to face impending doom knowing he would be overwhelmed and perish. The Naga Vashj shows up and offers aide and together, Vashj and Kael'thas forces are successful against the scourge. Garithos is displeased by this and now has the excuse he's needed to eradicate Kael. He deems Kael a traitor for working with the Naga, of course he despises the Naga also, and uses this a justification to throw Kael and his men in prison to rot for the next thousand or so years, or however long belfs live. Luckily Vashj breaks Kael out of jail, but at this point his people are dying without their sunwell. He writes of his hesitation to make a pact with Illidan to save his people, considering it a necessary evil, but then he and his people are considered traitors for that and that's how belfs joined the Horde. Then we got the Retcon. The moment Kael sets a toe in Outland he is suddenly a mustachioed villian who turns on his people and is fully corrupted. Even though we have Void elves and Illidari demon hunters who are totally okay with demonic energy now, even though we have Illidan who is a legend now, even though Illidan had a castle of slaves and concubines and we sat through a whole expansion getting lectured by holy characters for going after Illidan with hate in our hearts, Illidan who blows up a Naaru and even the high prophet himself doesn't blink an eye..... Thats all fine, but Kael? Nope, he has to go to hell and get spanked and emasculated for who knows how many eons. He doesn't even get to see Vashj. Mind you she doesn't get spanked for eons, she goes straight to Maldraxxus to have some fun. This writing is awful. (Blood elves without their sunwell are wretched. Rinse and repeat. Don't get me wrong, I love the universe, but the writing team needs to consist of people who care about the warcraft universe and its characters and who have the talent and creativity to handle it.) The Retcon of Kael'thas the moment he touched Outland was sloppy, he was used as a prop to make a quick dramatic story. If you get the Artifact weapon, Felo'melorn, you get to read 1 page about how Kael reforged it (his father's sword) and how he fought Arthas with it over and over and over, countless times, and neither could best the other, but in the entire wrath of the lich king we don't get a glimpse of that, only that Sylvanas is the brave hero that dare go after Arthas. At least the teams at Blizzard cared enough to bring him back in the blood elf heritage armor quest to give you a glimpse of who he really was. And I'm thankful they tried to incorporate him into the new story in Shadowlands, but all they've done is deny his justice and torment him for the retconning while everyone else is skipping around like its a Disney story. I'm afraid at this point the next thing we will see is that Sylvanas is a hero who just had to kill her own to give us freedom from fate and everyone will be happy and good is evil and evil is good, but still fcvk Kael right? He alone will still magically just have to pay for crap he had no choice in and awful writing with no resolution, no justice, nothing. They couldnt even let him play a hand in taking out Kel'Thuzad. Ysera gets a whole redemption story but Kael is spanked like a petulant child, an uttery mockery of who he is before the retcon. I am sticking with my head cannon that he made a humunculous of himself and actually peaced out from WoW years ago and went on to Dota2 as the Invoker (who is based off Carl / Kael) to do something more sensible with his eons of knowledge and time. YES The writing teams have really shat on Kael'thas and I am thankful they have tried to inject him back in to try to wrap up and resolve that sloppy writing, but they either need to stop or actually give him justice, this half-attempt where he's emasculated is killing me. Nightborne without their nightwell are withered. There was even a Nightborne boss we had to fight in a raid who thought she had to side with the legion to save her people, sound familiar? I love WoW and will probably always play it, but I will never stop calling out this horsecrap.

Kael's story from life into the SL is pretty of tragic when you think about, sure he may have always been arrogant and may have been destined for Revendreth nonetheless, but his true sins of enslaving Outland and joining the Legion probably would have never happened if the Scourge hadn't ravaged his people and homeland.
I'm hoping for some sort of Arthas redemption (since all of his actions after taking up Frostmourne weren't of his own will) but Kael absolutely deserves to end Kel'thuzad for being the primary reason for the Sunwell's corruption.

@@lenkagamine4145 TBC certainly did Kael's character no favors, but before that he did at least have an arrogant personality. Whether that's enough to be sent to Revendreth is debateable and perhaps he would have been a better fit for Maldraxxus had he not joined the Legion (after all, Vashj ended up there even though she too played a role in enslaving Outland).
And agreed, Arthas was far down on the path of vengeance and certainly not innocent by the time he took up Frostmourne, I'm just saying he doesn't bear as much responsibility for Quel'thalas as compared to Kel'thuzad. And all things considered, he was sent to the Maw without being judged by the Arbiter, so he at the very least deserves that.

      @kungfuvoodoo9889 Před 3 lety +1

@@lenkagamine4145 Having an arrogant and courteous side aren't necessarily mutually exclusive and I'm not saying he was arrogant to a fault prior to joining Illidan and the Legion (again, TBC didn't do the best at writing him, but there was at least some prior basis to his arrogant personality type being a lot more exaggerated), the main parts in WC3 that gave me the impression of his arrogant side were his retorts to Garithos in saying fixing the observation towers was beneath him and his people when he wanted to be on the frontlines and a few other moments mostly in the Belf and Undead campaign when talking pridefully about his and his people's strength. I suppose you could say that's just taking his rightful pride, but I guess it just depends on where you draw the line between pride and arrogance.
At any rate, my point is that Revendreth's requisites for souls to be sent there seems to be based on crimes one has committed, some deep personality flaw, or some combination of the two. Garrosh being there is kind of it's own conversation that's relevant here too, "Garrosh did nothing wrong" meme aside, there are certainly some legitimate debates on whether some of his actions could be considered crimes or just misunderstood attempts to defend his own people against those he viewed as threats (if you've ever read the Shattering novel or done the Horde Stonetalon Mountain questline which Blizz did technically say was the result of different story teams during Cata, those do help show him in a more positive light), but none can refute that he was arrogant.
And as I said about Vashj, she too was an active participant in enslaving people in Outland, in fact now that I think about it, most places in TBC that used Broken Slaves tended to be run by Vashj's naga and her boss quote was basically about using the slaves to funnel all of Outland's precious water supplies to her, so it kind of gives the impression that she was exploiting the slaves the most compared to Illidan and Kael. Yet she ended up in Maldraxxus. I guess in this case though, it might be that it was her "warrior" spirit that qualified her for that, she does say that she chose her Naga form rather than original Night Elf because in life she preferred being valued for her strength over her beauty.
At any rate, hopefully this little lorenerd rant helps explain my point a bit better?

@@JustAChinesePleb Arthas was better as Lich King, and the Prince Arthas more or less only existed to get to the good stuff. No hate, but you can tell when a character is made with the intention of turning them into a much more badass villain in act 2

Interesting how a lowly man can rise and fall then rise again. Kel'thuzad must have been a servant to the jailor for a long time. It can't just be in this expansion. This must be what happens when one dies who is of powerful means. The jailor to my understanding could have been manipulating all of warcraft 3 frozen throne up until the latter events of wotlk. They made us believe it was Arthas, nerzhul and kelthuzad. No, it was the jailor as he stopped people from dying peacefully and being sorted into their realms like a Harry Potter sorting hat event. I get it. It makes sense. Bring balance to life and death as we prepare ourselves to do it against the light and the void (dark).
