This video right here saved me about $400 in labor fees. I was able to do this all myself because of this video! This is THE video for this job. Thank you!
Thank you for this great video! Reading through the comments I thought I'd add a few comments in hopes of helping others. Someone else mentioned wires to an AC sensor being attached to the alternator.... mine had this too, they were attached with a factory zip tie that snapped into a mounting hole on the back of the alternator. Didnt see it at first. Was able to get a long, wide, flat screwdriver in there to pop the snap loose. No provision for it on the rebuilt alternator, but shouldnt be an issue as the wires arent really close to anything moving or hot so we should be fine. My alternator actually came out easier than expected (definitely had to twist and turn it) I only removed the one motor mount bolt as shown in the video. I tried without removing the tensioner pulley (mostly because I didnt have a 14mm wrench to get it off) but couldn't. Got the wrench, got the pulley off (huge thank you for commenting on the reverse threads in the video!!!!!) and the alternator fit through the space. I thought about removing the timing cover as someone else mentioned, but I was concerned that there might be a gasket on it that might not be immediately available and I needed to have this car back in service the next day. As for only removing the one engine mount bolt, the other mounts have a lot of rubber and flexibility, removing the one in the video is sufficient. As for the comment about lifting the car as you lift up on the engine, you really aren't, you are just taking the weight of the engine off of the suspension which allows the car to raise up a bit. Thanks again for the great video!!!
Thanks for the video. I bought remanufactured OEM alternator for $196 online price, but it looked exactly like brand new! After replacing, whine disappeared. The horrible lines on the backup camera (aftermarket) screen gone too! The lines started a month before whining started. Good forecaster. My bad alternate will not make noise when disconnector. Must be bad diodes. I was able to remove the two electric connectors (with rubber boots) and one purple fastener before unbolting the bad alternator. Inserting an Allen wrench inside that hole in the tensioner to keep the tension in place really helped. I had a bad time putting the new alternator in because the new one was 1 mm wider in the lower mount. I managed to use nut/bolt/larger combination wrench hole as metal gap/washers to push out the sleeve flush (2 mm distance) in the lower mounting hole.
Wow, even with all that you got it in and it works..remanufactured is all new parts except the outer casing. Rebuilt uses all parts that passes inspection and is in working condition and that is why the rebuilt ones Don't last long..what you bought is just like New.. im glad it worked out for you and many thanks for watching too...
Thanks for the video. Just did this on my Vue in the Walmart parking lot. Took about an hour. I had issues getting the alternator out the way you did, so i loosened the radiator and pushed it forward. That give me a big old hole in the front to get alternator out.
Thank you so much. This made the job much easier. Only thing I might add is to be careful of the plug below the alternator for the AC. mine was factory taped to the alternator wires and I almost snapped it off.
Great video. Great tip on the bolt to hold tensioner. Too bad you wound up having to remove it. Also, appreciate your honesty (when you pointed out the scratches).
This video helped but my alternator had wires in the back that were clipped and zip tied to the o² sensor.. a pain in the @$$ if you have big hands like myself.. still struggling with it now
Other than removing the bolt in one engine mount, do you need to remove bolt in a different engine mount? Other vides mentioned a second engine mount near front center.
I only removed the 1, I'm sure you can take off another bolt to make it easier to lift. Everyone always does it differently of course. Good luck on yours.
Thanks. I removed the front nut too. Super easy using wrench extensions piggyback on each other. Still I noticed that the front of the car was also lifted a little, but the engine was raised much more. No harm done after I finished. @@alyoungcuda

Literally the only video my husband found that worked, thanks so much
You welcome, glad it worked out and Thanks for watching

thanks a ton man I got it done in less than an hour
Good time..Thanks for watching..

Thanks for the compliments and thanks for watching...
Good info. You should also take off timing belt cover. 5 small bolts ,The cover is split in have for this reason then the alt comes out alot easier.
Good to know if the car ever comes back from car heaven...the engine/transmission cradle rotted and dropped down.
Thanks I'll give it a try
Hope it works out for you like it helped everyone else in the comments...
Thank you so much for this it really helped !

This was a great video, Thank You !! It worked great !!
You're welcome!
Thanks dude, great instruction. Wish they'd gotten you the correct replacement, seems to be a common problem.
Happens alot..sometimes its the people that do a swap and return it back to the stores .
Thank you for the tips, very good!

@@alyoungcuda yes.. I had my wife help get the serpentine belt back on. My hands would not fit

"1/4 inch metric bolt"
You caught that one..😆
It could be a metric bolt that just happens to be 1/4" long, lol. I'm trying
Does the upper alt bolt mount to the motor or a bracket?
To a bracket that is mounted to the engine...
@@alyoungcuda I was afraid of that, mine looks to be broke from when the alternator seized up and threw the belt. Thanks for the reply.
@@slow87gt look closely at it, take a cell phone picture of it by sticking it in there, you might get away with a long nut and bolt with washers
Good info TY
Thanks for watching...
Does this need a rebuilt alternator or can I just get one from autozone?? Bc they say it needs a special cold regulator
You can get one from autozone or Rockauto.com
