I did the same to my daughters slime barrel I put a cheap battery powered tea light candle in the bottom and it makes it look like the embers are actually glowing hot.
The tea light is a good idea, gonna have to raid the wife's closet.

Not really sure but some 3d brown paper bags or possibly shopping cart with items for essential life, maybe a few broken pallets for burning in the fire, and some sort of shelter(s)
