  • This video provides an impression of the colourful creole culture of the Seychellois people that remains strong today. The time of the Creole Festival in October, is an annual celebration of Seychelles Independence and an especially good time to visit.

    Seychelles has a lot in common with Saint Lucia. The covergence of races, the cuisine, the music and the language situation.

    Touch of a 'half-truth' about the 'freed slaves' bit! Seychellois' African ancestors initially arrived as slaves and were put through hell by the French. Later, some freed slaves ended up in Seychelles. Just my humble opinion but I think the painful past should not be forgotten in order to paint Seychelles as having a merely 'colourful' history in order to sell it to tourists.

    • @prestigehair5133
      @prestigehair5133 Před 7 lety +6

      LearningArms Actually the french arrived in the early 1700's and inslaved the Africans to claim ownership of the Island with the power of Britian soldier's. This Island was stolen from the original Africans

    People of Seychelles are not descendant of Arab traders. The indigenous people of the land are Africans, therefore Black.

    So many Black populations in various parts of the world are considered Creole, and speak a mixed Afro-French language, Louisiana, Nagaland India, West Africa, here

    • @listenup2882
      @listenup2882 Před 7 lety +1

      Creole simply means mixed and not necessarily racially mixed though most creole populations have racial mixing. Today the term is both linguistic and cultural.

    It's a very MIXED "Culture" of French, Spainish, African and European. What I was refering to was that Seychelles isn't "Part of" Africa.

    hate to point out Jmpmstrtex, but Seychelles IS considered part of Africa: Other nearby island countries and territories include Zanzibar to the west, Mauritius, Rodrigues, Agalega and Réunion to the south, and Comoros and Mayotte to the southwest. Seychelles, with an estimated population of 86,525, has the smallest population of any African state.[3] It also has the highest Human Development Index in Africa.. there really isn't much to discuss, just do your research

    Looks like Jmpmstrtex is having issues coming to terms with the fact that African actually has paradisiac countries For the brainiacs out there: East Africa or Eastern Africa is the easterly region of the African continent, variably defined by geography or geopolitics. In the UN scheme f geographic regions, 19 territories constitute Eastern Africa of which Comoros, Mauritius and Seychelles are considered small island nations in the Indian Ocean.
