At first glance and after watching this, it seems to me that metaverse is going to turn the human race into a horrible caricature of itself. Obese couch potatoes with electronic headgear, afraid to participate and confront life's real challenges and rewards, running around with Arnold-like or Barbie-like bodies doing impossible imaginary things just to compensate for the waste their life has become. Can you imagine what the health of our kids and grandkids will be-diabetes, heart disease, on and on. Wonderful explanation. A few things no one is talking about that are going to be the largest, yet perhaps short-term, I think like motion sickness, the need to wear a bulky clunky headset, etc. The internet is in our daily lives, for some people every minute of every day. There's simply no way to do that with the metaverse until you can get rid of the need for VR hardware. To me, the whole idea sounds really really crazy cool but hardly practical at all.
This is what exactly I thought, but I think as the technology develops the headsets will get lighter and sophisticated like how we have ears phones, spectacles etc. We use them all day every day...Just my thought can't really say what's going to happen in the future.

Great explanation Bernard! I am a software engineer myself but I don't really get what 'metaverse' is until I watched this. I thought it was just another www bubble or just a fancy word to trick investors.

whos to say we dont live a half and half life? One part of our day is working/hobbies and the other is meeting others and having fun on the metaverse. You would still get human connection while also having lots of fun. I wouldn’t doubt seeing lots of people adopt this lifestyle in the future.

What's the point in climbing a virtual mountain or taking a virtual dog for a walk? Is it for practise purposes before doing the real thing or are people just dreaming and happy with their dreams and fantasies?
Literally just more tech culture. Humans want more time idling in a computer chair playing characters. I can imagine it now every guy on there with 21inch arms on their characters

So to work one object in multiple metaverses, you will need for every metaverse to create your object / to support it.
You can't just create one 3D object in one game, and expect to work in another game without another game knowing that this object exist - same for metaverses. Or the point it it will work?
There are some exciting Blockchain Metaverse games, that will outdo Facebook, Decentraland/Sandbox, Axie/Myneighbour Alice/WaxP, once interoperability is more enabled on the Block chain, this was the user owns the NFT/rewards, rather than corporations like Facebook....

There will be parallel "metaverses" (VRs). Why should we all go into the one built by face? Metaverse does have a space for some use cases but for most things...nothing better than the real thing ;)

this seems to be a tool to allow us to hide behind a mask ,and loose connection further between us , as most of us have become very lazy through bad diets and exhaustive work and social demands ... how the world is getting stranger . be brave develop relationships, and communities in the real world people , its important for our survival , or we split ..
People need to get off their lazy butts and actually do something. Climb a mountain, not a virtual mountain. Take a risk, meet a neighbor. Join reality. On the plus side maybe they'll have virtual children, create virtual carbon emissions and throw out virtual garbage, solving those problems.

I tottaly agree!! I am shocked how everyone seem so hyped about this! As usual, people gladly accept everything that is served to them, as they did social media, tiktok. etc. I am afraid where will this take us eventually, we will be tottaly disconnected from reality and living in a matrix. I think that the global inflation will force the monetary system to move to crypto currencies and maybe even the COVID pandemic was deliberately created to cause global economic turmoil which would lead to inflation only to speed up and force the monetary system to move to crypto.
