  • Stargardt disease is a rare eye disorder that is diagnosed in children and young adults, usually between ages six to twenty. It is commonly called "juvenile macular degeneration" and causes progressive central vision loss in both eyes.
Stargardt's patients may have a hard time reading, using a computer or tablet or seeing the board at school. Their eyes get tired. They may not pass the standard drivers license vision exam. They are often light sensitive.
With special glasses for Stargardts, they can read better, used the computer and suffer less fatigue, eyestrain and tired eyes. Many Stargardt's patients are driving with bioptic telescope lenses in California.
Dr. Ashcraft has filled out many California DL-62 forms for the California DMV allowing them to pass the California Vision requirements. For more information on the DMV DL-62 visit our website page "California DMV Vision Requirements Simplified" at www.familyeyecareoptometrist....
