I knew Doug's dad Terry, he used to come in my gun shop in Old Forge, NY when I first opened back in '87. Always looking and a very interesting guy that knew as much about used guns as anyone I knew.

I loved this man from the first 10 minutes, and then he said "lifes too short to hunt with an ugly gun" I simply couldnt agree more with that than I already do.

I was a long range firearms instructor for 42 years. I've owned many different weapons over my 66 years. Let me say it was an honor listening to Mr.Trunbull today. Thank you Brownells for having him.
    Take care, Vern

I can relate to what Doug said about being able to hear the way a machine or tool is running and know something is wrong without ever having to look... I am a Plumbing and heating contractor and can walk in to a Boiler room and just listen and hear the problem...whether its a bad circulator motor, or the way the steam mains are banging, and your mind is already rotating all the best possible solutions.....approaching your craft the way Doug Turnbull does is what set him apart from all the others!...P.S. I have had Turnbull Restoration restore and upgrade several guns over the years and wouldn't even consider looking elsewhere....Ricky B.

Outstanding video interview and maybe the most knowledgeable firearms restorer in the world. Brownells has been at the forefront for gunsmiths for years. Now they are at the forefront of Gunsmithing information, For Free. Bob would have been proud of what his son and his sons have done.

I loved Creekside Gun Shop! I still have several guns that I bought from there as a kid. I remember seeing Doug there and would love to stop by his current shop but they're 9 to 4 weekday only hours don't fit my schedule.

A a Member of the ABS I wish Mr.Turnbull would consider giving something back to the Industry, gun owners and for Posterity. Especially since he has achieved so much Success though the excellence of the work of himself and his company and the work that they do.
The ABS started a Bladesmith school back in the mid 80s because the techniques of forging and heat treating a blade as it was done in the past were being lost and dying off. Not long after Bill Moran and Bill Bagwell had perfected their manner of Forging Damascus it was being taught at the ABS school in Old Washington Arkansas. In the Gun Industry some of the Best Gunsmiths have shared their techniques and skills to another generation thru the NRA summer gunsmithing programs. Men like Ron Power, Marc Krebs and the late Terry Tussey including many others are among those who have given back. Ron Power especially with his gunsmithing Tools as well as his Techniques. Bill Laughride is another who does the same. Profiting from a business and Secrets IS good Capitalism. Remember those who taught you and share the knowledge to those who come after. God Bless.

I called just last week to confirm that two USFA single actions had been through Turnbull’s shop. The lady on the phone couldn’t have been nicer and now I *know* they have Turnbull case hardened frames. And they are gorgeous!

I'm guessing they "refinish" too. E.eg. Do they refinish any gun? e.g. a 2023 Dan Wesson Specialist that was bought in "stainless steel"? ..to be blued? :) Or do they only "restore" spcific guns ONLY??
I know NAighthawk offers Turbull VIP 1911's.....or did...not sure if they still offer them...their VIP Turbull series...their most expensive..at around $8k per 1911 :)
Would love to see Turbull work with H&K-....

His work is an art form, to be sure but, as a serious collector myself, a Turnbull restoration is still a restoration. I don't know any serious collectors that buy restored firearms.

Micro tig welder can , but he has to understand firearms, and not get it to hot , they will charge big $ .
