The rant was funny, but we remember when Skip leaving put ESPN on life support. SAS was on every ESPN channel, flew everywhere, and looked exhausted. When Charles Barkley joked he didn’t want to work crazy hours at ESPN, he was referencing Stephen A Smith. So, all fun and jokes about “he does nothing.” However the man over there, with the George Jefferson haircut and the corny jokes, is the reason we can enjoy First Take and ESPN on a daily. Give that man his flowers. He deserves them.

Sports is about controversy, without that everything would be bland and black and white. Do players get fined for dropping passes? Nobodys perfect, wake up casual.
It's bets, rigging. Gotta cover the gambling somehow. It's been going on for years. Now that gambling is legal, we will start to see ludicrous calls every week. It's been a terrible year for officiating in the NFL. It's only going to get worse.

Florida State had a large group of kids that "opted in" for the 2023 season and put off the NFL - in fact, they played in the December 2022 bowl game against Oklahoma. That same group of kids (1) had to watch a important teammate break his leg in half 3 weeks before the end of the season, (2) decide that they would do everything they could as a collective TEAM to accomplish their goals without this important teammate, (3) then (after winning two emotional games) had a group of 13 dorks in Dallas tell them that those games DO NOT matter.
Now folks are going to sit back and judge them(and their parents) for deciding to "opt out" of a game that obviously "does not matter"?
There is no culture issue at FSU and Norvell could not have not done anything different in this unusual scenario - nor should he as the decision to play or not play is 100% on those kids and their parents. Those kids EARNED their right into the playoff and were screwed by greed. They did'nt need one game to prove to anyone that they belonged - they did that through 13 games and college football said that "It did'nt matter".

It's a problem when a 13-0 record doesn't matter. Too much privilege is given to Alabama and Saban. Nobody screaming and crying would have a different attitude than FSU had if their sons were on that team.

They still could have played and proven they should have been in by beating Georgia. 14-0 is better than 13-1. Would have made history by being only the 3rd FSU team ever to do so. Instead, they had the Worst Loss Ever in FSU history. All because they quit.
The game still mattered to Georgia. It still mattered to fans. It still mattered to those that chose to play. Quitting on your teammates because you're upset is not what Norvell has preached all season.
Those players ruined a great season by ending it in an embarrassing display. That bowl loss will be remembered for much longer by everyone than the rest of the season.

This was game was always about Florida St proving they deserved to be in playoff by beating a playoff caliber team. Which they did not. Love SA and Mad Dog, but the FSU take is wrong. These kids were heartbroken and the game meant nothing. Why play in a "Consolation Bowl" with absolutely nothing to gain and risk injury. The message was clear from the CFP: "play your guts out and win every game and we will still not reward you." The anger should be directed at the insane powers that be in the NCAA that won't set any logical guiedlines for NIL caps, portal dates, transfer caps... The sport has been decimated.

Im not gonna bash FSU because i understand why they did it. But let's be honest. If FSU had gotten in, none of those players would've opted out to "get ready for the draft" or to "prevent an injury from occurring". So stop using that as an excuse as to why they opted out vs UGA. The real reason they didnt wanna play was because of being shafted by the playoff committee (some of whom are ACC Alums) and wanted to send a message without making it look like a boycott.
