  • In this tutorial I show you how to braid the Mosaic braid. It is of good use for making dog leashes and plaiting over objects. It looks best done with a core, but can be done without one just as well. You can use any even number of strands to do the braid.

    Thanks Mark! I like to braid in front instead of behind. Imagine that someone was sitting at a table across from you watching you. He’d be seeing you braiding in front rather than behind. I don’t know why,but to me it just makes more sense to braid in front. I know why you do it though,because all the books say to do it like that. Oh well,that’s just my two cents worth:

      Hey!
      Indeed, once you pick a way of plaiting, you for the most part stick to it. I do all my braids around the back, be it the 4 strand round, herringbone etc. As long as it works...it is legit in my book.

    Very clear instructions, thanks. One question. Why would you put a a line in the middle of the paradores? It’s can’t be for
    strength. There’s already 8-550lb cords in the braid. Is it just to add girth?

      @devinandrews8925 Před 2 lety +2

      I made a 9 inch keychain with 2 feet of 550 for my core and 5 3 feet strands of 95 i doubt that helps much but it might give you an idea of how much supplies you need

    • @eddarby469
      @eddarby469 Před rokem +1

      When you want a leash you begin by threading the cords through the hardware and then braid.
      I would end this braid by weaving a long turks head over the strands very tight covering the free ends.

      It really varies on the project, so it is hard to give a general way of finishing. Sometimes a Footrope knot is used, sometimes a splice is used etc.

      @@ThePaulus2010 I find that the large braids tend to get longer in front than in back. There has to be a way to catch up the back side at the end. I usually tie each left cord to each right one then singe and cover with a Turk's head knot, yet I know that there has to be a better way.

      @@MelxVxBoo that is an excellent idea. I've had a couple of knots slip out from under the Turk's head knot, when working on small objects.
      Then again my idea of small differs from most people. I made a 2B21L Turk's head knot on a toothpick and a globe knot on the head of a corsage pin, 3 passes on each project. Both used .75mm nanocord. I'm not sure if upholstery thread would work for that. It might be bigger than the nanocord.
