Trying out Chinese fountain pens

  • I got some Chinese fountain pens, some from Jinhao and few from Yiren. Most of these are knock-offs from better known brands. But these are much cheaper and also quality is much lower. But reason why I got these, was that I wanted some cheap, affordable, fountain pens to test out with more aggressive fountain pen inks.
I got these pens long time ago, so there is no links available to listings anymore. I got mine from aliexpress.

Thanks for the swatching and overview. The one pan that you called the worst... I could hear the scratching on the paper. Must have hurt to write!

I'm loving all of the green pens! 💚 It's a shame they all don't write as good as they look!

Jinhao has been testing their nibs at the factory for the past year or two ala Lamy. It's best to flush pens before using them. Sometimes they have some manufacturing residue in them but also, you wouldn't want to dip a new pen into any ink bottle and contaminate / mix it with whatever tests ink may be in the pen.

Thanks, good tips! I actually don't dip the nib in ink, but the converter and then push the ink out with the converter piston. Since there can always be those surprise blue test ink or worst, mold. I'm super careful, sometimes I pour ink to test vial and fill it from there. It is better be careful!

The first pen is a Jinhao 80.
