    An inflated tire has a natural crown on the face that makes the band want to run true. Just install the band, inflate the tires to tension, then turn the wheel by hand making minor adjustments to the parallelism of the idle wheel until the band stays in the middle.

    Damn good machine. Available parts, tires are good idea. Green technology at it,s best with out gubment money. they auta cut you a check, its a great use of resources. Well done. Most sawmills wont touch a yard log. gonna start collecting parts. Maybe conside a variable feed. Thanks for vid.

  • @rustyul
    @rustyul Před 11 lety

    Not a bad design. Looks quite rigid except for the ends. I'm assuming you built this with a specific purpose in mind. I imagine you will get frustrated soon seeing the underpowered nature of the mill. I think a 20-30 HP engine would be much better. I own a small Timberking mill with a 25HP on it. Couldn't imagine cutting with less.
    I'd say that before too long you will be extending the mill with the same substancial frame as what is currently under the log. Good Job! You are having fun!

    In this world there are two ways to make machinery safe. The first is the current thinking of most, driven by government regulation and law suits - Guard Everything - because you never know the skill level and intelligence of the operator that will use it. The system I use is based on the operator knowing the equipment and how to use it properly. I think I am just fine.

    As some one who ran a small professional 125Hp re-saw at a sawmill and some other small bandsaws do you self a favor and put a guard all around the blade, accidents do happen. The big blades if they get jammed like to run into the frame or they crack eventually and need to be welded. The small blades however they just break and go flying and are very dangerous.

    • @BSpotBuilds
      @BSpotBuilds  Před 8 lety +1

      I started by going through all the metal I had, then figuring out how I could build the major components. I didn't make a set of plans but I did work out how long board I want to be able to cut, how big in diameter log would fit, and what the blade speed would be. Then I worked with the design parameters and the materials to build the machine.

    Why do all of these designs have the bandsaw on a track as opposed to a sliding table for the log?

    • @BSpotBuilds
      @BSpotBuilds  Před 9 lety

      shashaw08 I wouldn't move the log because it is much heavier and larger than the carriage required to move the engine and blade. The frame to move a 12 foot long log on a sliding table across the saw blade would need to be nearly 30 feet long. It would also need to support greater than 500 pounds for a good size log.

    • @shashaw08
      @shashaw08 Před 9 lety

      I feel like a 2ft wide 3 walled box on top a few dozen roller blade or skate board wheels ought to do it.

    • @Grizzydan
      @Grizzydan Před 9 lety

      Because you don't have to. It's much simpler to move the bandsaw as it's a light mobile unit. Like B said, you have to have a MUCH longer track to move the log against the blade, and the frame has to be built much more sturdy. The beauty of these little portable bandsaw mills is just that.. They are small, light, and portable. Less investment, less hassle.

    the blade can't come back... yes it can if it slips of one tire and than starts swinging around
    and if the blade snaps its nice to be behind the saw...because the forces are pushing the blade that way
    why not just machine two aluminium or metal wheels with a groove in the middle to fit the saw perfectly so that it can't move an then take a bit a sheet metal and get that shaped around the construction so that the only part of the blade that's exposed is where the sawing actualy takes place
