Explore a career as a Pathologists' Assistant at Loma Linda University.
The Pathologists’ Assistant program is a full-time, two year Master’s degree. The first year is didactic, with some exposure to the gross room and autopsy suite procedures, and frozen section training. The second year consists of clinical rotations and a comprehensive review course which prepares the student for the national certification examination. Pathologists’ Assistants (PAs) are mid-level medical providers (analogous to a Physician’s Assistant) working in the surgical and autopsy divisions of the Pathology Department under the supervision of a medical doctor, usually a Pathologist.

I’ve been interested in this route, but wanted to be able to talk to a Pathologist Assistant. Do you know what would be a good way to go about that?

Hi Katherine, I would suggest starting with contacting Cheryl Germain who is in charge of this department. She could then get you in touch with a Pathologist Assistant. 909-558-8095. cgermain@llu.edu. Have a great day!

If you can't get into a PA program Find a histology program. Most people who gross are HLT, or HT. We even have MLT and MT. Pay starts at 30hr where I work. Im a MT ASCP who been grossing derm and GI tissues for 11 years. I love my job. I do MOHS FROZENS I also work with breast tissue (reductions) gallbladders and core biopsy.

@@six6goddess214 Hello, thank you for this information. If you would be willing to answer a few questions I'd appreciate it. I want to be a forensic pathology assistant but really want to avoid a general biology/chemistry degree if possible. Therefore, if I am understanding correctly I could do a CLS (MT?) degree with an emphasis on histotechnology for my undergrad?
