Easy Jazz Improvisation on "All the Things You Are"

  • In this video, I go over how to improvise over the A section of the jazz classic "All The Things You Are" by using only two different major scales, Bb major and D major (for Bb trumpet, tenor, and clarinet).

    I've been working on this tune. You know how the 2nd 8 bars are the same as the first just up a 4th? I made an exercise where I just keep going with that. Bar 15 and 16 are A maj 7 then instead of continuing as normal I play the A section head up another 4th so that next chord is A-. Then I just keep going so that, essentially, I am playing the first 8 measures in all keys. Maybe I will make a video teaching that. Happy New Year!

      @@JeffLewisTrumpet yeah that's a good one. I've had trouble writing anything that surpasses it. I would be a one-hit wonder if that song was ever a hit.
