I was at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts in1984 during this tour with my wife and two kids, age 5 and 9, and we experienced the magic of this band, both musically and personally. I talked to Angelo Arcuri, their recording engineer of the band at that time, and said to him: "My family and I would like to meet the band, can you make it happen?" And he did. We spent about half an hour with Dio, Vinnie, Jimmy, and Vivian and it was magical. We were the first to go in, and were the only ones in the room with the band. Somehwat in shock that we got in, the first thing I did when Dio greeted me was to give him a big hug. A touching moment came when Danny, my then 5 year old, saw a table full of food and pointed to the pizza. Dio perceived it and and took Danny by the hand and brought him to the table and gave him a slice of pizza on a plate. I will never forget that gentle gesture by the great Ronnie James Dio. Jimmy, Vinnie and Vivian were so humble and present and genuinely pleased that we were there. At no time were we told to leave. On a humorous note, while we were waiting backstage to see if we could get in, Danny asked me, "dad, those girls are naked," pointing to a number of women undressing to their high heels, garter belts and stockings, and bras. Somewhat embarrassed, I said to Danny, "oh, they are going to a costume party." I don't think Danny bought that, but he did not say another word. But something made an impression because Danny became a metal guitar player and composer, and played at Churchills in Miami, Florida many times with two of his former bands. THANK YOU FOR THE MEMORIES.

WOW, back then you could do that. Thanks for sharing, how awesome. Motley Crue was the same way in '85 during theater of pain tour. My buddy Dan, who is a drummer actually bought Tommy Lee's black set from him (5 grand) and was able to get backstage passes 3 times, different cities. I went to the Roanoke VA show and met them. All except Mick. Vince was an ass, but tommy and Nikki were really cool and down to earth. Times have definitely changed. 😆

I met him in the 90's in a pretty small club. Of course Metal wasn't in the spotlight then and MTV became...well we all know what became of Music TeleVIsion. Sad. However the fans were still there. I mean, this was a very small club. It was during the Strange Highways tour. He was so kind, talkative and wasn't rude one bit. I got my Strange Highways CD signed by the whole band that day.
By the way that club is a Dollar General now. It was just east of Pittsburgh. Saw a lot of great bands there.🤘🏼

Here, you can really hear how fierce Vivian was. They were only a handful of guitarists in this genre in 1984 who can play with this much intensity live. Even the amazing Jake E. Lee was not this intense, though he had the best stage move - ever! Even better than King Eddie. Akira live was also this amazing during this time period. A lesser known Steve Vai at that time can play all of these licks and some more but was not this exciting live, though he had his own way around the stage but not on this level. IMO the only 2 Irishmen who were this intense was Gary Moore and someone outside of this genre - Rory Gallagher.

It's great that he included those Sabbath numbers too. I bought 'Mob Rules' some time in 1984, passing over Born Again, which was a relatively fresh release for Sabbath. I don't know why, but I picked Mob Rules. Probably because of the cover art. I was 9, and already had Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath, had no idea about the band lineup changes, just loved what I heard. I got two cassettes that day... Van Halen 1984 and Mob Rules.

To get good seats for this show, my friend and I pulled an all-nighter (on a whim, no prep whatsoever) so that we could get in line early at the Spectrum when tickets went on sale the next morning at 10 am. We took the Speedline from Jersey and got to the Spectrum parking lot around 5 am. There was a small line but not too bad. Maybe we can get front row, we thought. So we waited for 5 hours until the ticket window opened.
Being completely unprepared for this, we had no chairs, food, drink, radio, ball, frisbee... nothing. We literally just sat around baking in the sun for 5 hours, but at least we knew we were getting killer seats.
As 10 am neared, the line had grew significantly. "Totally worth it to get good seats" we said to ourselves. Then, just before the ticket window opened, some dude walks out and yells, "All floor seating is General Admission". The collective, "YOU MUTHERFU@KER!!!" was loud enough to be heard for miles.
Still though, it was a killer show.

You have the setlist correct but some things you posted are misleading.
-The songs you have listed as "covers" aren't covers. A cover is a song that another band performs but had no involvement in any other writing process.
      - This isn't the original upload as it shows it was uploaded a year ago as of me writing this. He's only listing the songs that are on this video.
-The date is correct (currently) but maybe when you made your comment it wasn't.

I was at this amazing concert! I was 16 and took a bus full of Dio maniacs from the Scranton coal regions down the turnpike to Philly to be blown away. What a band this was! Vivian helped fill a void left by the loss of Randy Rhoads at the time. Jimmy Bain from Rainbow, Vinny Appice from Sabbath. The first two Dio albums are as timeless as Randy's two Ozzy albums, which featured another awesome Rainbow bassist who co-wrote all the music with Randy and Lyrics for Ozzy. Shout out to Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake (Uriah Heep) on Drums. Without them Ozzy wouldn't be famous today.

Vivian Campbell is awesome in this. He may be making more money now in Def Leppard, but he's playing shite music instead of ripping through his guitar solos and blasting classic rifffs the way he did in this band.
