  • This is a brief video showing what parts were modified and made to allow a BMX style gyro to be installed on a tapered head tube aluminum frame. This could work for almost any frame that you would need ot run the gyro plate upside down due to spacing of the frame.
    Products used - Odyssey G3 Kit, Salt Plus Geo Rotor, Odyssey Lower cable, Black Ops Upper Cable, We the people gyro hardware kit.

      There are some MTB gyro kits out there, just very expensive. It was a fun challenge to see if I could make the parts.

    Currently, there are some easier options available without all the drilling and messing around. NC-17 sold a complete kit with top and bottom plates. No Frame drilling is needed. Sixpack components sell a top plate as well that works seamlessly with narrow stems. Both of them are way cheaper compared to the whole Title system.

      Ya. its about time that brands got on board that mtb/slope riders can use this type of tool/part. Previously it was the super expensive hydro gryo that never work for that long, or some of the street specific frames that had prewelded gyro tabs like the bmx bike have had.

    Wow scaring the shit out of me to drill into frame

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  Před 3 lety

      It is definitely not a task for the timid or untrained. But, if you take your time and make sure it is lined up and marked correctly then use a center punch to mark it and a new sharp bit it will go well. If not the bit will walk sideways and go off center. Do not be afraid to ask for help

    I've seen some people use epoxy to attach the removable gyro tabs so that you aren't drilling into your frame. Similar to how you used the epoxy on the upper part.

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep. By the looks of some of them, some people do a much better job of controlling how much epoxy they use compared to the others. It's a small detail, but I can remove them and make is sleek (ish) looking.

    Very helpful. Just to confirm, are these all metric sizes? M4-07 tap is metric I believe. Also what size drill bit and do I use the same drill bit for both holes? Thanks in advance as I don’t want to mess up a new frame.

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  Před rokem

      Yes, metric sizing. Ideally you want a 2.9-3.3 mm drill bit. Those are usually only found as part of a full tap and die set. A #30 bit will work also

    Can you do a video on how to actually measure out where the holes need to be? like does its height or size matter?

      @WattOnWheels  Před 4 lety

      www.vitalbmx.com/forums/General-BMX-Talk,2/drill-gyro-hole-dimentions,1297906 this may help. First post has a diagram of the sizes and spacing. As for the distance to the top of the head tube depends on how much steer tube you have.

      Two holes drilled per removable tab. The top one is just a hole, the bottom one is the one that gets tapped for the fastener.

    What size the drill bit and tap

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  Před 3 lety +1

      The tap was an M4 tap. The ideal drill bit for that size is a 3.3mm from a tap kit.. I used a 1/8 drill bit which works out to be 3.175mm and just took my time and cleared the tap often.

    What brake lever are you running for this?

    • @WattOnWheels

      I'll have to run back and look at the parts bin. I'm pretty sure it was an Odyssey BMX lever. Nothing special.

    • @pipelineaudio
      @pipelineaudio Před 2 lety

      @@WattOnWheels I'm running the title gyro, I've got their compressionless cables, tried the calipers and lever it came with, currently on the hy/rd with an odyssey monolever, but it is really bad for lock up type skatepark tricks compared to a gyro on bmx or hydraulic brakes. I tried several different pads and rotors, but they just dont bite. About to put my hydraulics back on and tell myself to learn barspins both ways better. I was hoping there was some better lever to use or something, but I just don't know. Also, the squeeze seems very inconsistent, sometimes the lever goes nearly to the grip and sometimes very little movement, thinking of trying the spyre or spyke if there were some levers with a lot more leverage and a reach control

    • @WattOnWheels
      @WattOnWheels  Před 2 lety

      @@pipelineaudio ok, here is a fairly cheap lever to try. The Avid Speed Dial 7. It is an MTB cable lever but it also has adjustable leverage. I use it a lot when I did trials riding. It is a longer lever and can make a lot of power. Also only costs like 10-20 dollars depending on where you find it.

      @@pipelineaudio if you do try the Spyke/spyre,. The Spyke needs a longer cable pull lever and will not work with a BMX lever that we'll. Use the Spyre if you use a BMX/short pull lever.
