    Wow, the tip about resetting the light at the end was not something I expected. So glad I stumbled upon this video. Doing a bunch of work and I was not looking forward to the lights remaining on.

    It’s a good thing I watched oil change videos for the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky and Abbarth 124 Spider. The other two are waaay easier than the 124.

    Good video! I have a 2017 Spider! This will be my first attempt at an oil change. I like how you laid out the tools and size we’ll need. I can do this. Thanks !

    The Fumoto oil valve makes oil changes easier without a mess. Use a clear 3/8 " drain hose & its easyto not spill or get your gloves oily.

    Very good video explaining the steps to someone who has never done a oil change on a spider. Thumbs up.
    One question Brian, I have read that you should only put 3 1/2 quarts in, start and run the engine, then stop it, wait a bit, then check it and add oil as needed. Your thoughts?
    Also, at 7:55 you put the aftermarket bracket on under the hose hold down when it was mounted with the 10mm bolt above the hold down like when you took it off at 1:28 of the video. :-)

    • @NGENCustomsandPerformance
      @NGENCustomsandPerformance  Před 4 lety +2

      You can do it that way if you want but if you give it enough time to drain all of it out, 4 quarts in at the beginning works perfect every time.

    Thanks for this video! I have a stock 2017 124 spider Abarth manual transmission. It has 30,000 miles. I noticed that it’s missing oil after about 600 miles. There is also black carbon on exhaust tips. Seems to happen when driving hard. Any tips? Is it the air oil exchanger needs cleaning? Or do I need a catch can? No smoke coming from exhaust. Everything works a feels great. Just worried about oil consumption. Thx!

    Hi Brian,
    Great channel and I like your nice and clean execution. Question have you encounter with stuck oil drain plugs?
    The bolt got rounded from previous user, tried tu use a extraction socket but it didn't work. Planning to remove the oil pan, but from your experience what could be the best method?
    thanks

    • @NGENCustomsandPerformance
      @NGENCustomsandPerformance  Před 4 lety +3

      Try hammering a smaller socket over the plug and then try and remove it. Worth a shot before you have to drop the oil pan. Otherwise, oil pan drop is the only other way.

      @@NGENCustomsandPerformance Followed your recommendation. I grinded just a little the edges of the round bolt to make a better fit for a 1/2" socket untill obtained a good grip. Then used a torque wrench and it finally break that rust mix or whatever was causing the bolt to get stuck. To anyone that faces this issue feel confident that the threads of the pan will not strip or the pan will break. Thanks Brian hope to see more of your videos and performance parts.

    Can you use a vacuum oil extractor on this engine? Usually when the filter is a top mount, the OEM will have a port or an open dipstick tube.

    Hey, quick question;
    I see that you put the splash shield right back on after draining the oil and putting the plug back
    Wouldn’t it be better if you kept the splash shield off until after you put the new oil in and turned the car on for a bit to check for any leaks?
    Otherwise I feel as if there was a leak from the oil plug, you might not know

    • @NGENCustomsandPerformance
      @NGENCustomsandPerformance  Před 4 lety +1

      @@NGENCustomsandPerformance You can skip the bottom shield all together and suck the oil out by using an oil extractor and a compressor. No more issues with stripping the bolt or dealing with the shield. You won't even need to lift the car up

    I heard there's a special hard to find 12991 type of oil, I didn't hear a mention of that. I don't know what the number represents, only that it is vital to use it in these engines.

    • @claudeworks2637

      MS-12991 spec oil is the oil Chrysler recommends for the FIAT 124. If you go to the dealer you can buy it at dealer price, or you can google "MS-12991 oil" and get one of the oils that had the spec for about half the price.

    Hello good afternoon! I would like to know what oil you recommend for a fiat 500 abarth of the year 2020 165cv. the manufacturer in the manual recommends 10w50 selenia. It is a brand that I do not like at all. the standard would be: ACEA c3. would a 5w40 be more suitable for this motor? I live in Spain. thanks.

    U should tight a little more the oil filter cuz in your case its just at the bottom of the case but with the heat and the vibration it can come lose.

    • @NGENCustomsandPerformance
      @NGENCustomsandPerformance  Před 4 lety

      Nicola6892 that’s actually not correct. The oil filter is as tight as it can be. If it was attempted to be tightened any further, the oil cap would have cracked. The oil cap will not come loose at all. We have performed numerous oil changes on these cars and have never had an issue, ever. Thank you for your concern and for watching the video.
