To those saying Death wasn’t a villain, you’re quite wrong. Death was being a villain here. Puss in boots had one last life which he was going to lose eventually. But Death took it upon himself to take that last life away when it wasn’t even time because in his opinion Puss in Boots had been reckless with the other 8 lives. And also he didn’t just want to kill him, he also wanted him to experience fear and be scared before he takes his life. He was a villain for real.

Besides. I think Death finds it unfair that cats get 9 lives, but everyone else like you and me get 1 life. There are how many millions of cats in that movie, worldwide, and he has to take 9 lives from each and every one of them. Each and every single cat dying 9 times. I'd get pretty frustrated if I had to do that. Same with past and future cats. How many cats over tens or hundreds of thousands of years lived? Each one dying 9 times? And Death had to be there every single time, 1 cat dying 9 times over.
I would like to see him meet god of war Thor because puss in boots meets death in a similar way that Kratos meets Thor. They both have cloaks, they both are massive, they both were acting real suspicious, and they fight and turns out to be insane powerhouses.
Fun Fact: Death was only seen by Puss for most of the movie. The only reason that everyone saw him at the end was the barrier on the star that dissolved anything thrown into it, meaning they were all close to death
@@Simbala-bq5vy I really wish Death had more screen time. But I believe they did it because they didn't want to scare the children too much. That scene in the bar alone is scary, imagine if there was more, haha. Even more played by Pablo Escobar 🤣🤣🤣
@@czz151 I mean for kids death is scary by it looks But for adults they find frollo more scarier by how realistic he is That man did and still does exist in our that's what makes him a great villain
Death has the perfect amount of violence and he is mysterious, scary, edgy and sketchy he’s easily my favorite dream works villain Also he’s whistle was insanely good 10/10
I think the scariest thing about him tho is the fact that, While yes technically he’s portrayed as a villain, he’s just doing his job making sure all lives are accounted for. The fact that pus won’t defeat him and that their final fight together ends in a kinda respectful “agree to disagree” attitude is refreshing. You know death won’t turn good but also won’t do anything irrational, he’s just making sure puss doesn’t waste what hes got. Not to mention the signature “Sickle drag”
That's because most people that I've noticed in the comments of any video of The Wolf of Death (or Lobo Muerte) in Puss in Boots do not understand the difference between the words Villain vs Antagonist. Death is an antagonist in this movie, yes, but villain no, he's just a force of nature. This force of nature happens to be somebody you can interact with.
I love the concept of reapers, people will always see "DEATH" as a villain because we all fear it and in our heads he's the reason people suffer when actually he just takes the suffering away. You can't run you can't hide from him but you can fight him and survive it (well sometimes)
Death in this movie is just a villain. He is actively trying to take pusses life, he in fact displays anger and annoyance when puss overcomes his fear because it makes the hunt for the kill not fun as he states “I can here for an arrogant little legend who thought he was immortal” showing that he had intention to kill puss and in fact didn’t want him to survive as said by another one of deaths lines which is in Spanish after puss “wins” in which he says “why did I have to go and play with my food” which in other words means why didn’t I kill him sooner which shows he’s a villain and evil and if you don’t think so then think of jigsaw, sure he’s showing people the value of life but is putting someone through physical and mental torture really the best way to do it because that’s what death is doing except he’s not trying to teach a lesson he just wants you dead so if you saw jigsaw is evil then wouldn’t it make death more so? Furthermore he is attempting to take pusses life before it’s even over because he’s mad at him for wasting the 8 other lives only cats are given which shows he’s acting on PERSONAL BIAS which means he is a villain in all senses of the word
I want Death to make a reappearance in a future Puss in Boots or Shrek movie. Not as a protagonist or something but someone that Puss runs into from time to time and maybe gets some advice from. He’s too awesome of a character to lock behind just this movie!
It would be a good idea. Despite the psychological terror that the cat went through, in a way, it was good for him to value his last life and not waste it like the other eight lives. I think if death hadn't intervened, he would have died much faster in his last life. You may find what I'm going to say here strange, but the way the wolf treated the cat was like a father scolding a son who just does stupid things. The cat has never had an authority figure in its life.
And if you listen at the maximum volume in the scene where death meets with puss, you can hear that the ring bells eight times in a row. And when it rings for the ninth time, the candle blows away and death comes.
yeah I think that's one of the reasons why both spiderman into the spider verse and puss in boots the last wish did so well because of that unique animation
Honestly he’s a fantastic villain with just such great screen presence. Even tho for most of the movie he was just in the background or not there. His voice actor did a fantastic job. They really outdid themselves making a great villain. I’ve seen a lot of people talking about him.
That man Puss was terrified💀💀 Idk what this man mean by 9/10 that’s a whole 10/10 that man threatened the main character and stalked him every single time
The way he puts his sickles together into a staff is what finally made the connection for me to the Egyption God of death, Anubis. Kind of a clever mythological reference in his character design.
One other thing that makes Death scary is the fact that he did everything to Puss that we never thought would happen to him: Death scared him into almost a heart attack; Death made him bleed; Death actually gave him a challenge.
@@matyaskleparnik8302 the thing is that pennywise kills for entertainment and to get more powerful, but death is just doing his job whilst enjoying it a bit
I also love how puss went on and on about how he's never been touched by a blade (even in his past lives) yet Death scratched (and almost killed) him in their first fight
The thing is, does he look like a wolf to everyone, or ONLY to Puss? I know that technically others saw him after the final encounter but we don't really know what they saw him as.
You have to remember that death is personally trying to take Puss’s last life in the movie. Death as a character is treated well here because he’s not treated as someone who will turn to the good side, because he has no side. He takes everyone, whether it be a king, peasant, woman or child, bandit or knight, he’s there to take them. I’d like to think that Death in the shrek universe has taken the image of a wolf as to not only strike fear down on those whom challenge his coming, while also taking the form of a creature that when not angered can look calming to that of children and those that died tragically. However, Puss did something that nobody else had done to death in many ages; pissed him off. When someone constantly gloats about his successes or insults to others at some point the person he or she is insulting will fight back. Puss had done this constantly, such as saying he laughs in the face of death. Meaning he is giving Death the middle finger while laughing. And for 8 of Puss’s 9 lives he did this. We don’t know how long each life was, but let’s say for each life lost Puss got a reset on age. Meaning Puss could have been laughing at Death’s face for years. And just like anyone insulting another, Death eventually said “I’m taking your last life personally, so I hope you can tell just how pissed I am at you.”
@@emmerichpaulo No way😂 I couldn’t tell because I watched it in Spanish with some family but that’s awesome. Also, if you speak both English and Spanish, watch this movie in Spanish, it’s one of the few cases where the dubbing is god tier 🙏
I love this character but seriously, if you can, watch some of his lines in Spanish. I promise it'll be worth it. The voice actor in Spanish is in a whole different level to me, his voice is deeper but spot and you can feel the emotions when he gets excited
Honestly he seems heavily inspired by the Wolf aspect of Kindred. From being death, to being a wolf, to love hunting down those who fear death and run from it, etc. And in the end, the only thing that saves him was no longer running. It's just like Wolf. All we needed was Lamb to show up.
In the west theres many stories about the grim reaper/death being represented by a wolf or dog with red eyes. I like that they took this approach that death takes this form to confront puss in boots. He also calls out puss in boots both the character and the actual real life folk tale on his ego. Since the phrase "boots laughs in the face of death" existed way before these movies.
I remember watching this in the Cinema as soon as he started whistling and appeared for the first time the Cinema went silent and I got goosebumps. And every time he appeared for the rest of the film I got goosebumps. Legit the scariest villain of all animation history, sometimes it felt like a horror film. I wish I could rewatch it again.
I think he said 9/10 to get to people and make them comment about it this movie better then anything that came out the past 2 or 3 years maybe even more
YES THEY MUST ADD “DEATH puss in boots” by Dreamwork. HOW HE BECOME DEATH ( hopefully a sad story or get average for his family or forced puss to change his life 😢)

Villain: A character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot Death is here to not just collect Puss' last life, but to outright take it by force. Even one of Puss' past lives says "Hey! That's cheating" and Death simply goes "Shh, don't tell". He wants to kill Puss and have as much fun in doing it as possible. I would like to see him meet god of war Thor because puss in boots meets death in a similar way that Kratos meets Thor. They both have cloaks, they both are massive, they both were acting real suspicious, and they fight and turns out to be insane powerhouses.
The way he asked him to Pick the sword up. "Pick it up. PICK IT UP! "
Gave me chills....

Voldemort:pick it up
I got more chills when Puss gave that line back to Death himself.
First time a cartoon sent a shiver down my spine (as a mature adult.)

Fun Fact: Death was only seen by Puss for most of the movie. The only reason that everyone saw him at the end was the barrier on the star that dissolved anything thrown into it, meaning they were all close to death

@@czz151 I mean for kids death is scary by it looks
But for adults they find frollo more scarier by how realistic he is
That man did and still does exist in our that's what makes him a great villain
Death has the perfect amount of violence and he is mysterious, scary, edgy and sketchy he’s easily my favorite dream works villain
Also he’s whistle was insanely good 10/10
I think the scariest thing about him tho is the fact that, While yes technically he’s portrayed as a villain, he’s just doing his job making sure all lives are accounted for.
Typo error
He's a villain
He's taking Puss's life prematurely. That's not his job.
And he doesn’t mean it metaphorically or rhetorically or poetically or theoretically or any other fancy way. He’s Death. Straight up.

I would love this
And if you listen at the maximum volume in the scene where death meets with puss, you can hear that the ring bells eight times in a row. And when it rings for the ninth time, the candle blows away and death comes.

One other thing that makes Death scary is the fact that he did everything to Puss that we never thought would happen to him: Death scared him into almost a heart attack; Death made him bleed; Death actually gave him a challenge.

It’s the fact that death is the entire shreks universe death now. So I applaud that level of fear.
The thing is, does he look like a wolf to everyone, or ONLY to Puss? I know that technically others saw him after the final encounter but we don't really know what they saw him as.
"I Just Love The Smell Of Fear!"
- Death
There's something chilling about playing you own boss music
That I one long comment

In the west theres many stories about the grim reaper/death being represented by a wolf or dog with red eyes. I like that they took this approach that death takes this form to confront puss in boots.
He also calls out puss in boots both the character and the actual real life folk tale on his ego. Since the phrase "boots laughs in the face of death" existed way before these movies.
He's not a villain. He's a force of nature. It terrifies us because we fear what we cannot prevent.
