@@andyknowles666 Only thing it literally shows is that FWD is worst layout for 0-100 and 1/4 times. Rwd is better and mid engined rwd is best. This has nothing to do with nsx being good, or high tech.
Ecu tuning costs 400 and takes 10 minutes vs turbo days and thousands.
If I were chilling in 2005, and you told me in the future, a Civic could beat an NSX, I would've personally brought you to an insane asylum.

Comparing a Civic to an NSX is like comparing a movie star and a porn star. One might be faster, but the other one actually has class and won't give you a disease.
One is beautiful and pure, the other is brash and ugly. The civic performs great and is all the buzz right now for Honda fans but the nsx will always be respected by all car enthusiasts.
Hopefully Honda done it to stop people ricing their vehicles because the meme and the next one shouldn’t be riced hopefully

From a performance perspective yes I agree the civic R is respectable. Aesthetically I have to respectfully disagree due to the numerous spoilers, triple exhaust tips for a 4 cylinder, fake plastic mesh grills and more. Also the styling language isn't what I would call "timeless" and I feel like it is going to look very dated and gaudy in less than 5 years. The NSX is simply beautiful, timeless, mid engine-rwd, and 12 years later it performs incredibly well.

DevoT actually the type R will probably give you a way better driving experience than the NSX. It’s one of the fastest track cars for a reason.

I've seen a 1000+ hp NSX here in SA at a meet not long ago
So a 40 horsepower disadvantage plus worse gear ratios (Idk the weight difference), and less advanced brakes and it still does quite well. That's why I love the NSX.
Probably has more low RPM power and torque too because of the bigger V6 engine, so it got a significant head start. I'd easily choose the NSX even it lost the second racet, it's just a much cooler car. I liked the older generations of the Type-R Civic, but the newest one is just weird.
Plus rear wheel drive, it would have lost if the Civic wasn't FWD.

@Noise Control - Actually they both weigh about the same so the type R still has a higher HP to weight ratio. The NSX has 177.5 HP per ton while the Type R has 205 HP per ton.

I always hate to remember that Honda removed the pop-up headlights from the NSX.
I think they both look very nice. They have so much character, as opposed to nearly all headlights today which just look angry.

The new nsx is a total missunderstanding what the old was, its just heavy, complucated and expensive, like the civic type r stop trying be everything.

The main difference is that the NSX could have been mistaken for a Ferrari back in the day while the Civic looks like Kryten from Red Dwarf.

The braking test is nearly useless. Even a slight difference in reaction times would change the results.

@@boardernut Not really. It's much easier to react to a clear visual signal right in front of you when you're not moving. To be able to guess when you're exactly parallel with an object at 60 mph is ridiculous. The only way this test would be even remotely useful is if it was tested by GPS. Plus, the start of an actual drag race is timed exactly so it's 100% accurate.
Now Honda should bring back the s2000 with 2500 lbs and slightly moded type r engine!

I raced an NSX, in my 2002 Mustang GT Premium, one day. This guy in this super low little car came up beside me at a stop light and was revving his engine. I took off at normal speed as did he, at the next light he did the same thing; I looked over at him, we both smiled and when the light turned green we went for it! It was a frickin close race, but I was pulling away from him! I had never seen an NSX before, so I searched it out and found out it was a $70,000.00 car VS my $24,000.00 Mustang GT, which I had bought used for $12,900.00. It made my day!

Thats not entirely true, japanese sports cars from that era had a gentlemans agreement that no car has more than 280 hp, but that is officially. Many NSX have reportedly made much more on a dyno, i think if not even up to 340hp some of the fastest.

True, since the NSX came out when the Diablo was still under Chrysler and god those were unrealiable, the 348 and Diablo were more powerful but the NSX did out handle them.
It was the supercar you could live with.
If people only realize that the current NSX is another reasonably priced supercar given that it is Hondas version of a P1 and the cheapest hybrid supercar you can buy on the market and is on par with the original NSX cost in todays money.
+Samuel Jones True the problem is that the new Nsx cost 930k sgd which is 703k usd in Singapore where I'm from which is about secondhand Ferrari and Lambo prices.And given that Singapore has the most Lambos per area in the world(I see at least 3 a day) you have an idea what people prefer.Plus people will give you a funny look if you tell the you spent 700k usd on a Honda

I’ve driven that exact NSX around a track back when it was new. It was Honda’s press car. It remains the best handling and nicest everyday car to drive that I’ve ever driven, if we ignore lightweights like the Caterham, Elise etc.

The NSX is so deceiving to the eyes. It looks huge from some angles and from pictures. But when you see it in person side by side with an S2000, its the size of a Honda S2000.....even looks smaller bc it sits lower. Amazing and timeless design.

The NSX is a beautiful, purpose built supercar but that Honda Civic Type R. WOW! It has a 2 more doors than the NSX, back seats that can fit 2 normal sized adults with a huge usable trunk and performs like this again next to a purpose built supercar at half the price. Either way it is a win for Honda. Well done Honda. Well done.

Have you seen the size of the turbo? Bhp isn't everything and that is proof with modern hatches.
Yeah think about this when the 2010 Camaro SS came out it ran a 13.3 with 426 hp 6.2L V8. So 13.6 with around 305 hp turbo 4cyl not bad.

The NSX really does look amazing to this day. This how you know a car has been designed to be timeless like so few others out there. Still a job well done to Honda. That NSX still stands it's ground after so many years. Sure rolling start the civic beats it but consider the time difference between the two and you can see that this NSX is still an amazing car. Wish I had one 😥

Amazing how much technology and power has come down to lower class cars. The NSX was experimental advanced "supercar" and Ferrari rival when it launched, and here it is being kept honest by a C category family car.

But of course, "supercar" is a personal thing - personally I like the NSX, others may not.
Yep. A new Camaro V6 with the 8 speed auto can do a 13.5s on the quarter, same as the NSX. Power and speed is easy now, we are in the golden age of motoring imo.
I agree, not least because not only are cars quicker and more efficient engine-wise, but the safety and navigation technology (ABS, EBD, Lane Departure, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Braking etc.) have made cars both faster and yet still safer.

Welcome to the comment section. Almost 97% of people are commenting of how amazing the NSX compared to the Type R. Yes we all know the NSX is amazing and all but there’s no need to hate the Type R. I like both cars because they each have their own advantage.

The old NSX is a legend! I can't imagine any other car with 280hp that performs so well even today! Not just the straight line speed, but also handling, etc. It was just miles ahead at the time it started. Sad though, that Honda isn't making "Heroes" any more and that they do not care about the german market.
Easy the base 2010 Lotus Evora. Better handling and slightly quicker too
BMW 335i N54 with twin turbo at 300hp would be a very good one with great traction with the amount of power it pushes.

Own a '02 WRX that I bought new that is likely going to be replaced with a Civic R when the price settles here in Atlanta. Fun to watch two cars that were/are the cutting edge for Honda. The NSX, senior by 13 years, was hanging in there 'like a hair in a biscuit'. Personally like that the NSX value is appreciating, I own a '91.
