After freeskating for a couple months, I saw some surfskate videos and thought they also looked really fun to ride. I decided to give it a go and went ahead and bought one. I was terrible at balancing on skateboarding at that point (am a little better now, but still mostly shite), but I got the hang of surfskating within a day or two. I think there's a lot of overlap with the movements between freelines and surfskating, which probably helped a lot. Would definitely recommend any freeskaters looking for a new experience to try it out too.

I find that the surf pumping motion on freeskates is really fun, and if you use your arms/body/shoulders, you can build speed while carving as you squat, and you can also get speed as you rotate the while standing up from squat to carve the other direction. That said, it's quite a workout on freeskates because your inner thighs have to be well-developed. With surfskate, you can put the lead foot more straight, which allows even more flexibility and rotation, and it allows you to throw your weight forward more easily from squat to standing. Your inner thighs can also take a break more easily unless you're going uphill. However, freeskating has the advantage that you can rotate more and do wiggle motion to help with the pump (the Carver CX board doesn't like permit as much wiggle-pump as freeskates). I'm also looking forward to using a land paddle with both of them, which will allow more body core rotational movement to "pull the water".

Going downhill without carving on a surfskate is also sketchy as heck because you can get what's called the death wobble and it's super dangerous if it wobbles too much. Going downhill on freeskates is also sketchy as heck because once you reach a certain speed, a branch or pebble can have you crashing. Rough concrete will also vibrate your legs like crazy. Be sure to master carving wide while on either! If you have a lot of steep hills, getting a longboard is an option, or what I do generally is step off and walk until I know it's safe to ride again.

@@rageburst Yeah, that's one of the only things I don't like about freelines is how terrible they ride over rough ground. I wonder if it'd be possible to install even bigger wheels/a better shock absorption system on them. Going downhill on them is usually cozy for me though, as the relatively high speed usually allows me to cruise over uneven ground. The trouble usually happens when I'm going too slowly on them and there's pebbles on the ground or if I'm going fast and there's pedestrians in the way that I have to swerve around quickly. Luckily, bailing out is usually an option too.

@@voidnoire7256 For slowing down while carving with lead leg bending at the knee, you can take the weight off the rear leg, and sneak in a T-stop to slow down more at each carve. The wheels are soft, which means they'll wear faster if you do this. Apart from that, you just need to avoid branches and pebbles by looking ahead. If you catch a branch or leaves, you can do a 180 to get rid of them. I'm still learning to ride reverse so I can't do this yet. Also, there's reverse pumping, which you can try to do by doing passive pumping and seeing where you can go against the direction that gives resistance as you're going down.
Rough pavement needs to use the lead foot more with regular flow pump and strong inner thigh muscles. You have to pull and push equally both ways with the lead leg and to use your shoulders/body/arms to add more rotation (no squatting like in surf pump to save energy). The rear leg would just do minimal movement to allow the lead leg to do most of the work. That saves more energy when there's a lot of resistance. It's an ongoing process to build the muscles and to refine the technique like marathon training.

They are about the same cost as a complete skateboard. Once you see them in-person you'll notice they aren't cheap plastic.

    Hello!
Is it possible for our company to become your representative in Russia?
The infrastructure of cities in our country is developing very rapidly now, running and cycling paths, skateparks, squares, parks, new spaces for skating - are appearing in large quantities. Freeskates make people very curious, but the problem is convenient and quick acquisition.
    Sorry for the automatic translation.
