I HIGHLY suggest that all early DQ fans play this! I played it recently and I absolutely LOVED IT. There's some really great QOL, awesome music from other DQ titles added, and fun extras (DWM content!!) I personally consider it the definitive edition of DQ1... and it's free and full of love.

I genuinely think that this is the RPG-Maker 2003 game with the longest dev cycle ever. Like, no other game on the engine had that much time in the oven.
True. But it's also one of the most impressive RPG Maker 2003 games I've seen yet.

I was legitimately expecting this to be for a mobile game, but I'm glad I clicked!
The fact that torches never ran out in the original (even though the Explorer's Handbook implies that they do) was a real saving grace considering how limited inventory was. I wonder if this version offers expanded inventory or the ability to store items somewhere.
Looks amazing. I need to snatch this up before SE's lawyers sniff it out and play their cease and desist card. They don't seem as fervent with DQ as they are with Chrono properties. David. thanks for showing me this which may have flown under my radar otherwise.

Oh yeah... Fangames are hit and miss.
It's hard to find a fangame who can last long.
@@anonamatron Even then, making a fangame is a huge risk, especially considering copyright laws. And Nintendo is very... very strict about their IPs.

Thank you so much for spotlighting this. I downloaded it out of curiosity and I’m genuinely having a blast. Even though it’s fan made, it has reinforced my love of Dragon Quest. Not sure what it is about the formula or tone but even in a game so simple, DQ just hits different.

It's my favorite game series I like how when it gets dark or emotional it never really bums the player out thanks to Toriyama sensei's(RIP) art style also the colors and cute monsters really suck the player into the world

This looks pretty cool. Dragon Warrior on the NES was also my first RPG and coincidentally the game that made me fall in love with the genre. Thanks to David to bringing this to my attention otherwise I would never have known about it. Also as an aside @1:38 David chooses dogs over cats. I concur and while cats are ok, I don't trust anyone who chooses cats over dogs.

I may have had that version of rpg maker. The system uses a program language called Ruby I think. I really just experimented with rpgmaker

I've been playing it for 4 days. It's amazing but somethings I hate. I'm level 59 and had around 350k total exp and it said to get to level 60 you needed 999,999k experience and I finally did and it just rolled over back to 0 and still at 59. The after game is easy cause I'm so high of a level but no hints after the Third world door so I'm stuck and been everywhere. Also it shows like 12 more ??? Spots where I'm supposed to learn more spells but I'm already maxed out

You probably figured it out by now but at the top near the Friends tab is Games. Hover over that and in the drop-down menu is Add A Non-Steam Game To My Library at the bottom

How does this compare to the Super NES, GameBoy Color and Switch remakes? I know that the GBC port is based on the SNES while the Switch version is based on the remake for the iOS and Android. Also, can we PLEASE talk about how fucked it is that the iOS and Android ports use a portrait layout and virtual controls?
Also, if Dragon Quest + is based on RPG Maker 2003, wouldn't it work if it were run via Easy RPG Player? If so, it can be run on homebrew-capable Wii, 3DS, PS Vita and Switch consoles, as well as Android devices, computers (Windows, Mac and Linux) and even on Retroarch.
Yes, DQ+ does technically run on EasyRPG but it isn't fully supported because of plugins and patches that were used. These plugins aren't supported by EasyRPG at this time. I have no idea if they every will be. The game looks good on handhelds and other platforms with EasyRPG, it just won't run battles and other things since they don't use most of 2003's default systems.
I know beggars can't be choosers, but I really hope we also get a Dragon Quest II +, so we can finally put to rest that buggy ROM translation hack for the Super Famicom DQ1&2.
I asked him about the possibility of future games like this and he said he doesn’t have any plans to. but he is developinga brand new IP based upon dragon quest

There are no new dragon quest games that ar great right now I already unlocked all the trophies achievements for dragon quest X1 when dragon quest 12 get released then I’ll play dragon quest again dragon quest monsters and dragon quest treasure on Nintendo switch sucks

But its NOT playable on CONSOLES this way ie PS4 PS5 Switch its only played via PC emulators which I'll NEVER play games that way while the OPENING on this mod is similar to DQ3's its best to chose the TITLES that increase the hero's Max MP PER lv up not more HP.
It's actually a full remake in a new engine. You launch it on PC as its own game instead of an emulator.
