I think whole of East was a composite cultural whole with _gradual_ variations across the landscape in the past; the modern state concept has drawn these distinct lines called boundaries when actually there is *no clear* point where _one ends and another starts_ .

Nagamese actually is a mix of broken assamese and hindi to communicate with each other. Nagas in general has different tribes that speaks different languages.
No you are wrong ...nagas learnt Assamese (which has similar dialects to Bengali)to communicate with plain people whereas nagas have their own language and tribe which is of tibeto- burman dialects....nagas and other northeastern tribes have their own culture and you can't say these things ,so better delete this comment

There is always a cultural exchange at some level.Nagamese is not a Naga language it's a Creole developed from Assamese,Bengali,bit of hindi and in modern times infusing some English words spoken in the style of various Naga languages.There is no one particular language among Naga people Infact Nagas consists of various tribe and subtribes with unique dialect and subdialect belonging to Tibeto- Burman language family. Even there are subdialects that are spoken exclusively in 1 village and are mutually unintelligible to other villages.Hence Nagamese developed and acts as a lingua franca among Naga people and their correspondence with non- Naga neighbouring people.
Nagamese is not a language of the nagas.
