This sound is heaven!
literally
With no doubt, god will come back to earth in a lexus LFA when apocalypse arises.
I wonder if James really believes the digital tachometer marketing fluff. Even the simplest servos of the time had more than enough accuracy to move a needle in concert with a quick revving engine. Many racecars and motorcycles with even faster revving engines still employed analog tachometers (and some still do today). Lexus just wanted to draw attention to their cool new gauges with a fun "story."

The most under-appreciated car in the world.
Andre totally not!
@@juniorhulzebos1005 No one cares and talks about this car, and it's so good so totally yeah!
Andre Everybody who knows something About the car knows its an icon! Still super cool but yeah its kinda dissapearing in the shadow
@@juniorhulzebos1005Exactly only people who know about it think it's an icon. Which proves my point that is underappreciated

There is a reason why Clarkson called this the best car in the world.
He didn’t. He said it was the best car he’d ever driven.
@@Gibla2077 He has driven pretty much every car under the sun, so he's right.
TriHard Cx f well, it’s always a matter of opinion, but it must be good if he’s saying that.
Anybody else say that sentence in Clarksons voice.?
@@Gibla2077 Near as makes no difference, since he has pretty much driven everything. Probably not his favourite car though agreed
They tried to make this car sound like an F1 car, ironically F1 cars now sound like a Toyota Camry.
LMAO the sad truth.. ahh that was great
Camrys might sound better (not as loud)
jjaajjjajaajajja
Enzo Ferrari wept. :(
No joke... 😔
LFA V10 is one of the masterpiece , below are the reasons :
1. Revs from idle to 9000RPM is less than 0.7 of a second.
2. Its V10 engine is lighter than the V6 in Camry .
3. Sound.. OMG sounds like a Formula 1 car (back then when it was V10 N/A engine - Listen to BAR V10 Honda)
4. Can be DD since its lexus super duper reliable.
Imagine owning this car and going to the insurance company..
"yeah buddy I wanna insure my new Lexus. No sir, the engine is smaller in size than a normal v8, and its very light, nothing big and crazy going on here. Safety and practicality you ask? Well, its one of the only cars with integrated airbags in the seatbelts, not even Volvo does that yet - it also has drive modes for rain and bad weather, you know, it's safety first kind of car, what else could you expect from Lexus? It's very roomy inside and only has the highest quality materials, so overall reliability will be top notch!"
*Gets it insured to the same rate as an average new top-line sedan
@@Real_MisterSir umm Ford trucks have airbags in their seatbelts
@@technom3598 not in 2011
These cars where notorious for transmission issues though. Just because its lexus doesn't make it reliable. Its still a V10 supercar.
@@Erowens98 there weren't any issues with it but it was a single clutch transmission which made the shifts a bit violent at times. As far as reliability is concerned, there are many LFAs which have clocked some pretty high miles (for a supercar) without any problems.
Almost 10 yrs and still dis car looks so amazing. Never get old

Lol lfa introduced in 2007 it takes 10 year to build lfa maybe around 2003-2005

Sound reminds me of the good old Formula 1 days
funny how you mention that. Toyota actually reopened its f1 facility for the sole purpose of assembling, balancing, and refining every single 1LR-GUE that powers every LFA. That right there should tell you just how special the LFA is. it has one of the only engines ever that could truly be considered a descendant of an f1. designed, balanced, and assembled right in the facility that previously did the same for f1 engines. This also should tell you exactly how expensive it will be to replace anything on the engine that isnt a chain or a belt.
Sounds great (the best) but you can hear the very slow (at least by today's standards) gear changes. Lexus should never have used a single clutch in their halo.
@@iu2 I actually enjoy the short break between each gear, it pushes you back mentally and then the re-launch of the climbing revs just feels a bit more potent. I'm quite torn between single and dual transmissions, I think they have their respective pros and cons. But regardless of that, a single clutch weighs less than a dual, and weight saving has been very important in this car, so I bet that factors in a bit too.
@@Real_MisterSir how much more could a dual clutch weigh? Does the weight savings make up for being slower?
this car sound better than any f1 car...and im a big fan of F1.nothing gets close to the sound of this car

You were enjoying that LFA way too much James hehe.
Such an impressive car, insane sound, crazy engine and definitely polarising looks.
Surely a one off car from Lexus, which is sad, but only makes the lfa even more special.
This is one of the best LFA videos I have seen in a while. There aren't that many videos about this car. And, rightly so. There's only 500 or so of them in the world. Thankfully, the reviewer didn't just focus on the sound the engine makes. There's so much more to the LFA, then that engine note. Yes, I know it isn't the fastest car in the world or the best priced. But, it is still one the most exclusive cars someone could have.

Yamaha had their hand in the development of pretty much every flagship Toyota engine. 2j, 3s, 2zz
1970's 18R-G had a Yamaha head.
For me, one of the best cars ever, on drivers feellings and sensations perspective. Its amazing
That V10 sounds amazing!
That 9k+ pull is to die for. I wish you'll experience a 1000cc sbk one day James, nothing like hitting the 12-14k redline !
Whenever Toyota and Yamaha get together, they always create something incredible. The first M-Series Engines, to the 4AGE's, BEAMS 3SGE, 1GGTE, 1JZGTE and most notably the 1LRGUE in the LFA... Nothing short of amazing
V10 sound is epic....straight through your spine....
Lexus and Yamaha collaborated in R&D of the engine not just the exhaust note.
Toyota and Yamaha have been playing together for a long time. I had a 1975 Toyota Corona with an 18R-G engine that had a Yamaha head.
I'd get so many speeding tickets in that thing.
"sir, I clocked you going 130 mph. Again"
Yea, but did you hear it?!
I've said it before and I'll say it again: the Lexus LFA is and always will be the best sounding road car ever made.
I recently went to Nagoya, Japan and if you go to the Toyota Museum you will find a LFA in sweet yellow color and you can walk around very close to it but you can't get inside the car...still good close enough for any awesome pictures. 😎
Please make a new version Lexus
John Mitchell they lost the most money because they built all of them and then just before release, the rebuilt them in carbon fibre rather than aluminium
@John Mitchell so it would make sense for them to use the r&d money, so you won't have to spend much, like vw did on chiron-veyron
That would be a mad car.
It has evolved a little bit in the LC500....
John Mitchell They might in 2019 with 800 HP
The most underrated car ever
Underrated by who?
Every time I hear this engine high revving I get a shiver down my spine, no other car can do that! What a machine, dream car!
One of the most special videos I’ve seen on this channel. Normally people would wish that they’d buy one one day but I don’t even want to buy it. I just want to see it and hear it in person, that’s all. What an amazing machine.
Sounds so good. Must be why it's appreciating in value like crazy right now.
Awesome rare car and ☝️ of the best exhaust sounds from a limited production vehicle👍🇦🇺
Fun fact: Yamaha didn't tune the exhaust. They created the engine cover and dasboard inlets that are feeding the mechanical sound of the engine directly to the cabin. What you hear in the car is engine itself, not exhuast. The idea behind that is that the driver get accustom to the notes engine produce in various RPM, mainly 9500 and change the gear at the right moment.
This car will go down in history as one of the greatest. The sound is just spectacular, especially these days when almost every manufacturer plays some fake crap through the speakers. Also the design is very unique and special. Lexus has really created a legend with this one 👍
This is the last yet best car from Toyota/Lexus ever!
They actually made 50 Nurburgring editions, not 20.
Michael Phillips how does that add up with the numbering? There's 530 cars in total?
No, they made 450 normal cars and 50 Nurburgring cars, which are randomly numbered within the 500 car range, for instance car number #298 is a Nurburgring editon, as well as #436 & #499 etc etc.
One of the test drivers died on the ring in a Nurburgring edition car I believe.
@@tompog897 yeah, it was their Gazoo head that was killed, but it wasn't on the nurburgring, it was on a public highway near nurburg.
You also have Tokyo editions right?
One going up for auction in the USA (Nürburgring version) in 3rd week of Jan 2019. Estimated $850,000 - $1.1m - also with a red interior.

watching the video in 2021 and wow the sound of the LFA. great video by jww
Somehow I need to finish my hw but instead I’m watching this. Yeah it can wait
*I find it hilarious that when the LFA came out, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE hated it due to it's price tag and looks.* I was a lone sheep among car friends when I defended the it. Every car reviewer and internet keyboard warrior bashed the LFA to no end. Now, the same people that complained suddenly had a change of heart.
sdlausen I do see where you are coming from but honestly reasoning on the whole situation...when the LFA first came out, it was over priced and when compared to other cars within the same price range or ones that were SIGNIFICANTLY less such as a 100k GTR, it just seemed unfair.....Now that it is sold out, the car is more special due to its rarity and novelty aspect...the car simply didn’t match what its competitors were doing for the same or less price and thats why people were bashing it
@@The_Animal_Man It was not overpriced... The car literally costs over a million per unit. The craftsmanship involved the in materials and production of each car is staggering. The only reason people considered it to be overpriced was due to the performance. A GTR may haven been just as fast or quicker, but it didn't have the gloriously over engineered v10, carbon tub, body panels, and rare earth metals literally everywhere. There is a reason the GTR can be had for 40k now. No comparison.
Feels great to see the LFA finally getting the attention it deserves. In 2011 it was called ridiculous for being that pricy, but this thing isn't about how fast it can go, this thing is automotive art, made to enjoy and admire. It won't win u races, but it's pure joy this thing. That engine shames even the best sounding cars in the world so much that the sound is actually directed inside the car for the occupants to hear, that's y its so loud inside.
To me this is one of those supercars that you absolutely dream of as a kid. I was in my teens when this thing came out and always loved it. If I had the money I'd have a hard time choosing between it and the SLR.
Awesome video James! Have been looking forward to this one for a while!

Didnt they make 50 Nürburgring packages?
York Mork I had thought so too. Hmm
Yes, 50 of the 500 are nurburgring editions
Surly the guy who owns this would have given J the correct information? Otherwise it's poor research by J and his channel if it's wrong because that could possibly mean he's sat in one of the 50? It would have said somewhere on the car though if it had been a Nurburgring edition though? So either the numbers don't match up, or the first 50 was the ring spec editions or the information J gave was correct? I'd have to side with J on this I reckon and only 20 were made
@@martyndyson9501 it's likely he misspoke. It's probably difficult to film 15 minutes and not misspeak, ever.
There are 500 LFAs total. 50 are NBR packages. In the serial number lineup they are fairly random, like 268, 345, 499, etc.
You can go with what you heard on the video, or you can find out for yourself. The internet makes research too easy to just remain ignorant

This car for me has to be the best super car out there, untouchable, underestimated and pure enjoyment. I once had a Toyota gt86, although not the same materials and performance the LFA reminds me of it in so many other ways, the interior, body styling and precision, handling, road clinging, looks and rarity and reliability basically a very ultra cheap baby version of the LFA in my opinion. I've driven ferraris and porsches around a track and the gt86 was much more fun. So i can only imagine how much more fun the LFA is to drive. Great video, if i had the money, it would be the LFA over any car. Id say the same in ten years time, its a one off future proof super car.
