Ella Raines (August 6, 1920 - May 30, 1988) is probably best remembered for her role in "Phantom Lady" (1944) based on the novel by Cornel Woolrich, but she appeared in several other film noirs of the era. She's not widely remembered today, except by film noir enthusiasts, and this has been chalked up that the leading men she appeared with were not big stars and lacked sex appeal. She never played a femme fatale but was often a resourceful and strong heroine. I always enjoy watching her. The music is the theme from the film version of "The Naked City", composed by Miklos Rozsa and Frank Skinner, and performed by the Jazz At The Movies Band.
    Clips from:
    Phantom Lady (1944)
    The Suspect (1944)
The Strange Affair Of Uncle Harry (1945)
    The Web (1947)
    Impact (1949)

All of those actresses were prettier and had better acting skills than lauren bacall, she only became so popular because of Bogart and her J privilege.
