  • In Band Saw Restoration I take a 1978 Roll-In Band Saw that I purchased in an auction, strip it completely down and restore it to factory condition. This includes stripping off the original paint and the previous latex refinish paint along with all the rust. The entire process took many months and I have condensed it into this video.
The Roll-In EF1459 band saw has a capacity of 14½ inches under the guides and a 9 inch cut. The blade and vertical column travel on an inclined track that feeds into the cut in a straight path. Gravity enables the blade to find its most efficient feed rate. Counterweight control provides adjustment for optimum cutting pressure and long blade life. The work piece remains stationary and your hands need not be in the cutting area during cut-off, an important safety feature.

Great saw! Worth the effort to save it.

If you're hoping to gain any mechanical or setup info on the Roll-In saw go ahead and skip this vid. If you want to watch someone paint one it's for you.

Looks good. Been my choice of bandsaws for 20+ years
I used hammertone paint on my roll in saw restoration due to the 1/4" "boiler plate" (with scale) and weld/grinder marks.
Hammertone paint is also known as Quebec Chrome btw.

I like the IPSC target for a table use.

Nice video and a very cool saw that you have there. I am not familiar with the Roll-In saws. I will have to read up on them a little. And I have to ask, have you ever done any voice over work before? The tone of your voice perfectly matches that of the environmental safety video that we have to watch every year at work!
Keep up the good work. R.J.

Well it is certainly memorable to anyone that works for the US Antarctic Program. If you start talking about waste disposal and spill cleanup my brain will explode. Good job, look forward to your next project.

Just curious if the wheels on the roll-in were co-coplanar ? I am in the process of restoring an ef1459 and I found that the top wheel was off approximately 1/4" from the bottom wheel.

If I may ask you paint code, you used on your machine it looks to be original color. I too I'm rebuilding my saw
    thank you in advance!

Hi Paul, happy Thanksgiving! You're finding nice equipment at auction. If you live somewhere where it would be acceptable, have you considered a pressure pot sandblaster? It would work wonderfully to strip the paint and no nasty chemicals.

Actually I own one from Harbor Freight, I just don't have a big enough compressor to get it work. My compressors are only 2HP. I think realistically, you need at least a 5 HP with 60 gal tank for this.

I got seasick watching this. Don't use head cams please
Also the video title is a misnomer. Change it to 'Spray painting and reassembling a bandsaw' and it will be more accurate. No restoration footage at all

That's what I was thinking, almost 18 minutes of a 25 minute video on painting the machine frame, instead of restoration he should have called it paining a saw.
