My dad has the 200D way back 1967. I drove this car after I got my driving licence. It is indeed nostalgic to see this car again. The diesel engine sounded like a German tanker though.

While station in Germany 🇩🇪 in early 70s owned three different M Benz. This was last model I owned , which was diesel . Of three M Benz I owned,two diesel and one gasoline model. Now in states I owned 2016 M Benz E 250 Bluetec AWD sedan 🚘.
This tail fin Mercedes was home to me when I was a child, I grew up with this car... When I was tall enough to reach the pedals, my mom let me drive it in the countryside... When I had my drivers licence, I took my friends to the disco on the weekends... This car being an optional 6seater., there was room enough for all of us.....
I have one of these but it's the 6 cylinder gas engine with 4 on the floor. I love the gauge cluster
Lovely car. I remember my whole life, when my father take me to little trip with Mercedes 200 D yearmodell 1966. It was company owners brand new taxi Mercedes. I was 7 yrs then. I become Mercedes man in that trip. I bought many Mercedes cars in adult and the quilty one about that is Merc 200 D 1966🤔😁

I had and Ivory White 1967 200D, back in the 80s, it had a floor Gear Shifter.
Superb, great sound of the Mercedes Diesel engine. It seems rather nervous for it 55 hp.

I've always liked diesel powered cars. It's an unforgivable shame that diesel cars aren't very popular here in the USA.
it's because gasoline always was and stil is rediclious cheap in the usa, and these old diesel engines were very slow and very loud, so you don't want to drive one for hundreds of miles, because you would go insane of the noise when you would drive faster than 65mph. The only plus side is that diesel engines last waaaaay longer than petrol engines, and that stil counts for modern diesels.
3DPeter That can be a problem. I've never owned a Mercedes-Benz diesel. But I've ridden as a passenger in my share. What's always annoyed the hell out of me is the sound of the turbocharger. That loud whining they make.
3DPeter That's what I've always liked about diesel engines, their longevity compared to gasoline engines. If only the cost of filling weren't so expensive.
+Jason Carpp in Germany Diesel is much cheaper. We pay 1,28 for Petrol 5% Ethanol and 1,09 for Diesel. If a petrol consumes 8liter / 100km a Diesel will mostly 6 or 5,5 liter.
+MrTiti Here in the USA, it's $2.50 per gallon. While not inexpensive, it'll probably never drop to below $1.00 per gallon, it's less expensive than it was not too long ago. I'd buy a diesel powered Chevy/GMC Suburban Diesel if I could find one in decent condition.
