A federal jury has found former Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby guilty of two counts of perjury.
Mosby walked out of the courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland, after the verdict was read, only saying, "I'm blessed." Neither Mosby nor federal public defender James Wyda commented on questions about appealing the verdict.

Facts.. Usually whenever a member of that party (D) finds themselves in courtrooms being charged with white collar felonies, it's because they either failed to walk the party line or failed to cut the senior members in on the schemes. In which case a guilty verdict is reached with a sentence looming over their heads, but they win on appeal.

Retirement accounts are not the same as a savings account. Usually retirement accounts set up by a city or state, being a city of state employee is paid for by the city or state. There are restrictions and rules to access funds for something other than reaching retirement age. When you access the funds and lie on the documents the reason for withdrawal you’ve committed a crime. She used the money to purchase a vacation home in Florida, not allowed.

Should be obvious there is no reason to have two vacation homes in the same state, regardless of that state's politics, unless you are renting them out. She is basically using retirement money, funded by the tax payer, to make more money. The illegal part is that you can only "borrow" from your account tax free. Withdrawing from the account is taxable and she was trying to use "financial distress" to not pay taxes on it. You can't claim financial distress and then use that money as an investment in a business.

She will also get 5 years probation (Supervised Release). Likely more than 21 months since she went to trial. I imagine they offered her a Plea Agreement (21 months to plea guilty, but she elected to go to trial, so the judge will sentence her to maximum of whatever her sentencing guidelines calls for, likely up to 60 months, especially since she's in a public position. Also, she loses her BAR card, can no longer practice law.
