Rijke tube demonstration (thermoacoustic engine)

The air in a quartz glass tube open at both ends self-oscillates at its fundamental frequency (about 240 Hz) when a few resistor coils (procured by taking apart a hair drier) are placed a quarter of the way up inside the tube and made red hot by passing a large electric current (about 15 amps) through them.
