The 212a submarine class is NOT a nuclear submarine. It is a diesel-electric submarine with an additional fuel cell power source. Nuclear submarines are rather noisy compared to this one. Nuclear submarines need working cooling pumps all the time to cool the nuclear reactor. This makes noise. Also nuclear submarines can be detected easily, because of the cooling requirement for the nuclear reactor, they heat the seawater behind them. And this is visible by satellites. This is not the case with this diesel-electric submarine and its fuel cell.

I do not profess to know everything , justa random guys comments . if god forbid they were sunk in the north sea there would be no radiation problems . if the uk cannotvmaintain a decent fleet . where the fitted for but not with mentality gone , then I think an undersea fleet a much better option .
