    The roomette seems reminiscent of the sleepercoachs I rode 50+ years ago on the 20th Century Limited. If memory serves the cost was a mere $7.00 above the cost of a coach seat.

She did not want to share the bath room. Heheheheheehhe. She did not like flying to much so she would always take the train. She did not mind paying a little more in the fare on Amtrak.... Well, you take care and Happy Holidays to you...

      @@MarcusLeepapi The price for a bedroom New York to Jacksonville is over $1,100. The Roomette is around $650. And, these are Senior Citizen prices. An airline ticket is less than $100 for certain flights. So, you really have to want to travel by train in order to put out that type of money. Some people can't fly or refuse to fly so the train is an option. Also you have to have the time as train travel in the US is pretty darn slow.

Skip the mile high club , way too uncomfortable, take the train, get a room , they have access to showers and if you have a room breakfast and dinner are included. So take train and have fun getting it done.

      They took the Diner off the Silver Star a couple of years ago. They're stopping diner car service on the LSL and the Capitol Limited. AMTRAK is under pressure to save money. I just have feeling in my gut that the Silver Meteor and the Crescent will be next. They'll "mothball" the Viewliner Dining Cars and then turn their attention to the long-distance trains. I just don't see a great future ahead for food service on AMTRAK.

    • @THEFINALHAZARD
      @THEFINALHAZARD Před 6 lety

      Truthfully I don't see a great future ahead for Amtrak, period. In about five to ten years all I see Amtrak as, is a Northeast Corridor service with nothing else. The Southwest Chief is becoming a grim omen I think for what is the future of long distance rail for Amtrak, where they're going to only focus on their one 'gem', which is the NEC.

    • @cats0182
      @cats0182 Před 6 lety

      I'll tell you, I'm not sure that there should be a future for long-distance train travel. At age 78, I'm as much of a rail fan as anyone. I rode the 20th Century Limited, the "original" California Zephyr and Denver Zephyr. They were wonderful, memorable experiences. However, if I want to go coast-to-coast today, I'll take a plane and travel the best class that is available and that I can afford. As for short-distance travel, I used AMTRAK's "Empire Service" from Albany to NY. Great ride. Fast. Allowed me to work while I was riding. That's the kind of service that AMTRAK should concentrate on.

    So sad to watch what America did to its trains and the entire railway system. Everything is worn out, the tracks are bad, the locomotives are old and still run on diesel (incredible!!). Some day America will realize that no industrialized country can stay competitive without a modern (electrified!!!) railway system. Look what countries like Germany, France, Japan, China, Taiwan, Austria or Switzerland did. They built one electrified high speed railway after another. Are they all wrong?

    • @Petemonster62
      @Petemonster62 Před 4 lety

      The Northeast Corridor, between Washington D.C. & New York is electrified, & has been for many decades. The Great Northern ( Today BNSF Railway - with Amtrak's Empire Builder ) had a 50 mile stretch of electric railway at the Cascade Tunnel in Washington state. They eliminated it in 1956 when diesels could run through the tunnel without overheating. The Milwaukee Road had two electrified districts; one in Montana & one in Washington state - but they were eliminated in the 1970s.

I picked up some of the Kato viewliner baggage cars for my Superliner and silver service trains and they are awesome, but Kato doesn't do the diner yet. I'm using a N scale Con Cor heritage dining car instead. It looks good but I want to update it like the real Amtrak is doing. Are there only still 3 viewliner diners or have more been delivered? @@FAyalapoggi Google Amtrak.com. Then enter from New York (Penn Station) to either Jacksonville, Orlando, or Miami. You can choose a Seat, a Roomette, or a Bedroom. Choose how many people will be traveling. It will give you the price and also the trains available. There are only two trains per day to Florida. I would think that 3 people in a Roomette would be very tight and uncomfortable. The Roomette is pretty tight for 2 people. If you can afford it a Bedroom would be a lot better.
