and everyone is ignoring the fact that a helicopter is flying in space to pick up a badass who apparently jumped from earth and landed on the moon with a series of front flips and did not even wear a space suit. now THAT's a contra warrior.
you forgot the fact that the person in the window of the helicopter is a crossdressing Lance Bean..... i kid you not.

Well, you ignored that the final boss is something like a sentient black hole that spins the whole galaxy around in order to confuse you. A helicopter flying through space is nothing compared to that.

@@capscaps04 Because Japan is weird. There's a cutscene earlier in the game featuring a close-up of Lance in drag... not pretty. This game does not take itself seriously at all (being filled with all sorts of nonsense) and is very likely non-canon anyways.
*Fun Fact:* The final boss' name is Zelos Force. Yes, the same one from the Gradius series.
This means they take place in the same universe.
I'd highly doubt it. It's just a mere coincidence, and it makes sense that Contra is basically a parody itself. Konami likes to include plenty of references and Easter eggs throughout their games just for the sake of fun.
I'm pretty sure the Zelos Force in this game is NOT the same as the Zelos Force in Gradius. Just like how the Neo Salamander Force are basically this game's counterpart of the Red Falcon Army.
*fun fact 2:* Zelos Force's theme is actually a remix of Contra Hard Corps' Last Springsteen, the final boss theme against the rocket.

@@sans1608 I know it's terrible, but not every Contra game needs to include Bill and Lance, you know? I have heard about the new mobile Contra game. It's almost as if they forgot what made the franchise so great in the first place and are basically milking it dry for all its worth.

fighting a alien thingy in space wearing only a blue jeans and no shirt no space suit and only contra soldiers can do! as long as you have the best weapon in the game the SPREAD SHOT! good old fashion weapon. yet the most effective weapon! wherever you go! oh and of course only contra pilots can make helicopters fly to the moon XD

1:55 do you need a more powerful weapon, or is this boss the longest fight I have seen in contra? Never played this one and it just seems like anything would be better than spread. Yet again, the missiles seem to really get soaked up quick from it. Is it just an endurance fight?

Actually, according to the contra wiki, this isnt the “wheel of doom” you are describing. This is actually zelos force, not to be confused with the zelos force found in the gradius series.
