She's the Jane Goodall of oceans. Magnificent TED talk.
This makes me cry. I love the ocean so much! I have always had a strong connection to nature and knowing that it is dying because of human selfishness hurts me so much.
what a shame that this TED talk has not had 7,000,000 views.... inspiring and yet somewhat sad...
+Nik Woolford Then share it and help it spread.
@@scp-2348 many documentaries about sea life on Netflix has a big haul on catching a big chunk of audience!
yet with the current society on earth will make it such a hard topic to BE TAKEN SERIOUS.
WE MUST NOT FAIL TO PROTECT THE OCEAN. the business men/women behind Unilever and other grand sea food companies must know and adapt to the needs for a stable ocean life.
Or some day I`m going to hire a fighter jet and bomb every fishing vessel in sight.
We thank Sylvia Earle for her tireless dedication to protecting the world's seas.
Everyone need to watch Mission Blue on Netflix 🐠🐟🐬🐳🐋
Why?
@@MsPhantoosh Because it's like lesson aboute thats whats human population it's douing to the ocean. It is our future if we kill everything in this world we will die because we are the predator in this world hope you understand whats thats mean :)
coming here after watching it
Seaspiracy on netflix
She's so damn brilliant,i saw her on seaspiracy
Brilliant woman. A genius in our own time, with a heart of gold, calling for us to help save our heart of blue.
What an amazing woman with a true purpose in life. Love it
Can you please re-upload this talk TED? It is so important and so good. It surely deserves it
Fantastic TED talk! We absolutely must protect our oceans, seas, lakes, rivers and the planet at large - or face extinction.
The key word is we.
As things stand now, IT IS TOO LATE. SAD TO SAY.
I found Ted talks and enjoyed almost 9 out of 10.....intelligent, caring people, giving intelligent
Information.....not like TV news...
and I don't just mean mainstream anymore. Unfortunately, where were all you intelligent, caring, and knowledgeable people years ago on climate "change".... because now it is more like a climate "crisis".....
EMERGENCY even, WHAT DO YOU THINK?????
To be honest, the fact that youtube pushes music videos to billions of views and not put this kind of video on its homepage for everyone, every day is mindblowing. Social channels have a better role to play.
I completely agree. But skip the "to be honest". If we are grown-ups, we should all be honest about how our species is ruining (parts of) this planet.
It’s so sad that it’s 11 years later and people are still saying the same things today and not much has changed
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account??
I somehow forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me.
We need an Ocean Man
And 13 years later, where are we?
Amazing Talk!
This is so worth the time to watch & listen. It's scary how far we have come in depleting the oceans. Everyone needs to make a stand to save them for us, our children , Our grandchildren.. for if we continue to strip the seas- our entire life as we know it on earth will be gone.-
She is such an inspiration. Wish I could do half of she has done for this world
Incredible and inspirational. Yes this should be shown in schools. In fact, there should be an education program solely about the environment. The children that are in the schools now are fundamental to the future of this planet.
Sophie Rosas I totally agree!
Dr Sylvia Earle is amazing!!!! I am a great fan!!!
Great speaker for a great cause!
Paradise lost, indeed. I wish more people would pay attention to this topic. It's crucial! You can almost see it right in front of your eyes, here in St. John, USVI. Massive changes in short periods of time...
Truly inspirational. Keep spreading the word!
This beautiful lady is a gem of this century and the last. What a wonderful human being.
An inspiring speech from an amazing woman.
An AMAZING Talk!! We all need to be AWARE & VIGILANT to protect the Earth & the Seas of our Beautiful Planet!! It should be shown in all schools, government institutions, Business Organisations, included in Mission Statements of all major programmes in construction & engineering. Taken on board every step taken when interfering with our ecosystem, in Space Explorations and countries land reclamations & city urbanisation! Showing it repeatedly in celebrations singing our 'Oath Earth Anthems'
I have a lot of respect for Sylvia Earle, Google being as big as it is could help with her wish of saving the Oceans.
Listening to Dr. Earl's brilliant, compelling perspective there's only one conclusion to be made: Leave the oceans alone, stop eating fish, let the oceans recover. If we don't, we won't survive.
Woah, can't understand why isn't isn't the top video on TedTalks. This is fantastic, because it shows you a world that you don't see often, but is real and important.
I do not want this Tedx Talk to end. She is amazing and so is her research and her will to save the ocean and hence our Planet.
Wow, this is truly amazing and poetic. She is a great speaker!
I love these TED talks.
THAT is a video that should be seen by millions of people!
Her voice and speech are amazing!
We are so connected to the Oceans, but I guess a lot of people don't know that.
Brilliant research that desreved recognition. Weldone Sylvia.
THAT is a video that should be seen by millions of people!
Her voice and speech are amazing!
I was born near the sea and my livelihood came from the sea. As a child i learned alot of things about the sea. I am now an Advanced PADI Diver and it has been my dream to become a Marine Biologist. I think that people who live near the sea should be educated on Conserving marine life since it is part of our Eco-System, especially children. The ocean is my life and would do anything to save it.
thank you for this beautiful speech.
Truly inspiring.
Thanks Dr. Slyvia. This would be the my favorite video ever presented by youtube.
I am going to bookmark it.... This is eye opening... Thanks Sylvia.
What about the great pacific garbage patch? I'd like to see that on google maps.
This is amazing!!
Awesome video !!!
Love it, lifechanging speech
Amazing!!
Esta gran mujer exploradora de los todos los océanos es un ejemplo a seguir por todas las nuevas generaciones.
Awesome Talk ever!!!
Wonderful talk and images;vital message. Heed!
I agree, this is a video that needs to be seen by millions and millions of people! Yes the problem is people..but the bigger problem is the CHOICES PEOPLE are making. That is what she is talking about..and we the people of the earth CAN CHANGE THINGS..if we start making different choices.
Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Sylvia Earle the Science Girl.
Sylvia Earle is president and chairman of Mission Blue and The Sylvia Earle Alliance. I'm pretty sure she's a woman, not a girl. lol
@@juliagarcia8577 she said girl bc it rhymes with Earle.
Brilliant, we connect this information to the youth. It is important because they are our future.
I agree. What can we do?
I lived in Luanda, Angola in 2015, of the few times I went by boat it was disappointing to see so many garbage dumps in the sea, several times we had to stop to take out the garbage because it got tangled and clogged the boat, there was plastic, cans etc I am shocked and saddened. Luanda is a very ascinated city with a high production of garbage and a deficit for its collection and proper disposal, added to that there is a cultural and sensitive deficit towards the issue of recycling and protection of the planet and the oceans. If someone reads this comment, it may help raise awareness among the people and leaders of that country for the good of our planet.
The is such a powerfull speech.
This is a wonderful presentation of a not so wonderful subject, the state of the ocean. People just don't realize what is happening and that the ocean is the mother of all life on earth. If the ocean dies, we die. Its such a paradox that as we expand our knowledge of the universe, physics and make great technological leaps, we ignore what is happening to planet earth and our support system. I wish I had hope for humanity as a whole. All each of us can do is make as big an impact as we can.
X colxon
Steve Gill why don't we show documentaries to our kids in school. It all starts somewhere
We, and the previous generation knew what was happening, and they did make a big impact....
It's called the CARBON FOOT PRINT. McPherson has quoted another scientist, maybe Hansen, as saying as much as 8yrs ago,
" LIFE IS A HEAT ENGINE."
No ocean = no life support system
No water = no life
Excellent speech on oceans.
everyone “NEEDS” to watch Mission Blue on Netflix 🦈🐋🐠🐟🐬🐳
If you are curious about this person, about the mission, about what she is talking about, see the movie : MISSION BLUE. Where you can educate yourself, and learn, and maybe even decide. Search it up, Mission Blue. ;-)
She's definitely my female hero ❤
All the best...
important message!
Just watched Mission Blue..
It is really sad what we have done and continue to do to this world that we are a part of..
We must change now before it is too late
Beautiful
I hope you can fix the subtitles. for example she is saying drawing down not trawling down.
this woman is my hero
everyone share this video to your friends and family members and start making change!
If ever there was a testament to the oceans and bio-diversity it is this. Incredible.
Bravo Zulu!
Dr. Sylvia Earle, Wishing you a long life 🙏
That was powerful.
Old intro music ftw
*bangs head to the beat*
K now to watch the vid :o..
didnt know people talked like this twelve years ago
pretty interesting if you ask me
@@adam.august 😂
I'm sad you didn't see passion in Dr. Earle, as she is someone who has long inspired me to care for the ocean. Although I personally find this video inspiring, I do think she is a better writer than speaker. I recommend reading The World is Blue, in which she writes compellingly--and with a great deal of passion--about our dependance on the ocean. Might change your opinion of her!
Watched Seaspiracy, found her. This video needs more views and the cause needs more care.
Im doin my project on her :)
sylvia comes to my pet shop...she signed her book for me! shes sooo smart!
I agree---start showing this in school!!!! Educate the young!!!!
FINALLY, SOMEONE SAYS IT!!! YES, SHARE IT SCHOOLS ASAP!!!
@dmcdonaldak It was shown in my school. Really touching video.
palestra fantástica
“The time is NOW”🔥🦈
we need to stabilize the global population
Should never have gotten to this point..... infinite population growth
on a finite planet. What were people thinking? Ther are a very few who are using there brains and realizing that it is and should not be, all about their egos.
Unfortunately, people are still having babies and sentencing
them to a horrible and sad future.
Unbelievable. The earth is a FINITE PLANET. People have been known to say, " what's wrong with the world?"......but as my intelligent grandmother used to say, " there's nothing wrong with the world, it's the people in it."
She was so smart.....💕
A brilliant analysis of how the earth is poised for destruction if we do not heed Sylvia"s words.
Why doesn't the petroleum industry pay to clean up the plastics in the oceans?
It does. They just can't always afford it without completely destroying their business.
What are you smoking?????
Once the plastic is in the ocean it becomes extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove
Sea food and fish are a part of my everyday diet at home, but... I think... I don't really want to eat fish anymore after this. At least, not at the rate it has been. It really puts things in to perspective when you see stuff like this.
I am curious how many people who watched this video have actually made that small personal change to protect our planet (and oceans) and stopped eating seafood (and meat, meat products in general)? We all are masters to talk, but still continue doing the same things. If we do the same, we will get the same results. The smaller change with the greatest impact starts in our own kitchen. I've changed my diet and will never eat fish, meat and meat products again, you?
Nope.
Tatjana M. the point i think is to avoid overfishing not stop it, actually, ocean products can feed more people on the earth to protect humans from starving. But it is matters if we do not use it properly
Yes we must go vegan
I do what ever I can to fight globalism and western culture.
zeyue yao in Egypt we have a low that preserve fish no fishing in the breeding time it must apply globally
woow i cried in the middle of her speech, man she has so much passion for suriving, and its lthat why i want to pretoct the ocean too, but not for humans, i coulnt care less about the humans, but for the animals, i want to do it for the animals
This should be shown in schools.
for the life of me I can not imagine the thumbs down (as small as those numbers are)on such an important gift of this presentation...there is no Planet B
I hope it was so simple... Have a nice life.
@StephanieLisaTara Haiku - 5-7-5. whatever yours is, is 5-7-6
@OmarHaleemOne i love this post!
intense
@lestony97 I think the only one is the George Costanza, he is the one who saved the whale!
Even if that were to be the case, what should we be doing with our last years on earth if not trying to save ourselves?
sexyloser
Your comment shows what a loser you are!
I wholeheartedly agree. Any industry that cuts corners to provide shoddy food should be shut down.
That being said, there are oodles environmental engineers who could help us build those farms and make them produce healthy fish foods:).
Everyone has to watch seaspiracy on netflix
Shes SO right.
No Blue, No green !
Can anyone tell me what degree she got in college?
haciendo contacto...deseamos involucrarnos en la restauración y cultivo de arrecifes marinos....!!!!
I think this might be a viable solution, but if eating cows, chicken, pork, etc, is also damaging to the environment, what do we eat? Do you think there's a reasonable alternative (save having the whole world go vegetarian)?
yeah USA should sign the kyoto protocol. :s
We are so connected to the Oceans, but I guess a lot of people don't know that.
HAIKU
I hatch! Crawl! And swim!
Oh how I love my sweet life,
But-why’s the sea so warm?
-A Green Sea Turtle
I am not sure those are the criteria for Haiku.
But it is touching and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you.
