    Just what I needed thanks mate. I couldn't figure how to keep the recoil tight while fitting it back to the saw but now I realise I have to take the handle off and feed the cord through the eyelet and then fit the handle again

    Thanks a lot. This helped me to find the issue. Going to pull inside until tight then close the rope outside with one turn returned.
    Have a good time.

    l have a Giantz 75cc 22'' chainsaw. This chainsaw has 2 springs, one ( assuming) sucks the rope in which is 6mm, other is 12mm starts the engine. After l changed the snapped spring (12mm) Everything was ok till l tried starting it. There was only one revolution which wasnt enough to start it. l fooled around with for a while but, l coudnt work it out. Where did l go wrong? Thank you for sharing such a helpful video :)

    Not sure what I did wrong but whenever I pull after the first time (starting it) it doesn’t reset the recoil. I have to tug on it a few times till it fully resets, not a big deal to deal with, just glad I got my saw able to start up again lol

    This is helpful for that model and gives the basic understanding of how to install the starter pulley and rope, but Stihl has several different designs. 😒

    would have been nice to see you pull the recoil once it was actually installed to prove that your repair actually worked

    How do you replace the recoil spring ?

  • @62impalaconvert
    @62impalaconvert Před 4 lety +3

    An easier way is to put the whole assembly together and then grab the rope and wind it around the pulley until the handle is fully retracted to the hole in the case and then give the pulley a couple more turns to pre load the spring while holding the rope in the pulley groove as you turn.

    I wish you would have pulled the cord and tried to start the saw because I’m having an issue with my cord not retracting I can take it apart and tap the cord spool and it winds back up and I can pull the cord while it’s apart and it won’t hang but when I reassemble the saw the cord hangs I’ve tried oiling it but it still hangs when I pull start it

    i see only 1 pawl. aren't there supposed to be 2?

      Some of the bigger units use two pawls, but most of the smaller ones just use 1 pawl.

    Lol it only needs 6 to 7 turns, to many will bust the spring when you let it go

    What this video fails to mention,is that when you try to fit the spool onto the spring the spring coil will snap out of the housing, now you've got problems. I have spent hours and hours trying to wind up the coil and tried to fit it back into the housing, this is not possible! I've had it!

      Put a screw into a workbench. Put that hook portion on spring onto screw. Put the other end into a screwgun chuck. Slowly use screwgun to tighten spring. As it tightens, use two zip ties around spring……tighten zip ties as spring gets smaller. There are video of this up.

    The owner of that saw should educate himself on how to properly use a chainsaw. You can put your fingers between the guide bar and chain and rebar for a pull handle?

    Never use a drill to tighten screws on your saw with plastic parts. Stihl makes a torx 27 t handle for that. Your lucky you did not damage the plastic or strip the threading. Been a Stihl mechanic for 38 years. get a T handle 27.....

    "chainsaw recoil repair".....you did not actually"repair" the recoil. It wasn't broken.
