Ogryn are the bestest bois. Every Commissar should be issued an emotional support Ogryn.
probably not a good idea imagine getting killed when it hugs you for "comfort"

@@The-Great-Penguin I mean aren't they like 12 ft tall? Also the lack of any tusks might be a give away
Bro, during HH, ogryns killed so many traitor marines
I think back in 7th edition they had the same strength as Space Marines
What if they made ogryn space marines?
We call those "thunder warriors"
aren't those ogryns the ones with implants that makes them smarter and much better than astartes?
@@sovietcurry8863a regular ogryn has the intellignce compared to that of a very dumb child or a very smart dog. The Bone'ead chip helps raise their intelligence a bit, but they are costly to produce, which is why they're only given to squad commanders to help lead their non-augmented brothers. In hand-to-hand combat an ogryn could rip a space marine in half, but even with the Bone'ead chip their poor intelligence still puts them at a disatvantage
"Ogryn, what is your job?"
"To do me job."
Your a genius! “Presents sticker in the shape of a medal with the words good job printed on the front”
Ogryns and Squats are a prime example of how similar conditions can be handled in several different ways. They both developed on high gravity worlds, having to endure harsh environments. But where the Squats became more stunted and sturdy, and moved underground to harvest the ritch mineral deposits of their worlds. The Ogryn traded their intelligence for raw power and durability, simply powering through their challenges.
only the Squats make sense from an evolutionary stand point.
Higher Gravity would result in smaller bulkier creatures.
Ogryn are a bad adaptation being bigger and heavier which would both be bad for a high gravity enviorment.
Think how Elephants can never grow as big as whales and how the largest mammals all live in the water there the water makes movement easier.
The two extremes of humanity's "we'll just tough it out" attitude
That ture Ogryns also come from cold violent planets where being big to stay warm and to fight off rivals was extremely danafusal
Kinda baffled that this vid doesn't say "Abhuman" anywhere. My age is showing, I suppose lol
Sub human.
@@mackenziehunt7616 Not the same thing: "sub" implies below (human) , "ab" states that they are different. Subtle difference but "abhuman" is the correct term for squats, beastmen, ratings, ogryns, etc.
Another word is abnormal. So it just means not a normal human.
@@Rellikan Indeed, which is where the 40k/Imperial term "Abhuman" comes from.

ogryn in terminator suit would be funny
Sweet god that’s a scary thought
Ogryn Charonites are basically that. They ripped through space marines with ease.
They would commit suicide due to their terrible claustrophobia feeling trapped inside the suit.
The ogryns at some point gained additional engineering and cybernetic enhancement, likely most of this was during the horus heresy, where they were employed as a more efficient and expendable method of killing space marines.
I thought ogeryn came from penal colonies where the biggest and strongest were able to fight to live more. And the squats came from high gravity places, being low but dense
Its a bit of both from memory. I think at one point in the lore the origin for Ogryns was that they were from Penal colonies on high gravity planets. So their current form is the result of both the high gravity and the survival of the strongest. (Unlike Squats who JUST had to contend with the high gravity.)
The ogryn have to be my favorite abhumans in 40K other than the ratlings. They are such a power house in darktide. I have two ogryn characters and they are definitely my money makers.
Imagine if Cawl implanted one with one with some sort of cerebral enhancer, found a way to make a version of astartes out of him, and equipped him in power armour 😳
boneheads in tread armor exist en masse.
its not to far away since we already have boneheads
Theres a reason ogryns and veterans have wholesome dialogue with each other in darktide
So loyal to the Emperor, the only way you can trick them to fight for Chaos is convincing them everyday that they are still fighting for the Emperor
I think some higher ranking members of the guard sometimes have Ogryn bodyguards seeing them as loyal hounds.
This guy got it half right, ogryns are some of the most loyal troops the imperium has. They believe completely in the emperor and are told they doing his will. They fight for him and aren’t scared of dying as they don’t understand it.
They also bond with normal guardsmen and become best friends with them. If anything tries to harm there best friends, they are a force to reckon with.
Look up Nork deddog, to understand the loyalty.
And further more look up ogryns in power armour. They got roided up and stacked in power armour and messed up chaos marines. They even jumped a primach and the primach had to exert himself to the extreme to survive. These guys are far stronger in lore then the tabletop gives them credit.
Them and the salamanders are the most wholesome in the imperium: (also Angron pre-butchers nails ;) )
there was a version of ogryns that personally infiltrated Horus’ ship and was annihilating the space marines, to the point where Horus had to step in himself just to deal with them.
Ogryns are strong enough to wrestle with space marines, often growing to 8-10 feet in height.
Gotta protec' the lil'uns
They're also nearly immune to small arms fire like stubguns, autoguns, and light las weaponry. Even full lasguns only make skin deep wounds on their thick hides. And their abnormal strength makes it near a cakewalk to beat a marine to death or tear one in half
That’s why even Dark Eldar like to capture them for their arena for gambit entertainment and slave pit for torture
_"YOU KILLED BOB!!!! YOU KILLED BOOOB!!!!"_

I wanna see an ogryn vs a space marine hand to hand 😂
A space wolf would win
Most space marines would win. Depending on the weapon. If it’s hand to hand it’s a close win for the ogryn but with Gear on our ogryn friend gets decimated.
@@fishyboy2140Eh, not really. There is even a book/short story in which a UNNARMED Ogryn kills two fully armed Chaos Space Marines with his bare hands. He just fucking tears them apart.
@@ghostplays2766 that’s most likely a case of author writing whatever tf they want. Surprising to see it’s with an ogryn instead of a boy in blue tho.
@@fishyboy2140 Not at all. Even if you look at the tabletop game, a Space Marine/Chaos Space Marine has Strenght 4 and Toughness 4, while a Ogryn has Strenght 6 and Toughness 6. Ogryns are stronger than Space Marines, but the Marines are smarter and have better gear. In hand to hand combat however, a Ogryn can beat the shit out of a Marine.
This is why I love the Destiny’s Children book series. It shows what human evolution could be
“And I know thats true cause mama don’t lie…”
They're also useful as factory workers
They're also extremely claustrophobic. They're more than happy rush into the heat of battle, but refuse to get into a transport vessel.
Holy crap someone actually mentioned Ratling Snipers
Imagine if they added ratlings to dark tide.
They are on that Lil Un protecting grindset.
What would happen if you took the Ogryn and sent them through the space marine process?
You get a daft Thunder Warrior.
@@genghiscarnage4015 Do you think they'd have the insanity and cancer problems of the Thunder Warriors?
You would get Ogryn Charonites (Augmented ogryns with similar genetic upgrades as Space Marines). They existed during the Great Crusade, but we're quickly dismantled by (Still loyal) Horus durnig that time, since they were so strong, they chewed through Space marines like Space Marines chew through regular humans
@@maximkislicyn2297that be a cool book to read
Give them some genetic altering to make them smarter then you'd probably have that could hold its own against a custodes
Ogryn are also very kind and caring
Yep! They call regular humans “ little ones”
Ogryns are dope. But they don’t have the martial or tactical prowess of the space marines. But their strength is definitely comparable.
Btw, name of the song/music??
Ogryns are comparable to terminator armor
Fun fact one of the last acts of the emperor before being placed in The Golden throne was to pardoned all the ogryns who sided with Horace. This is because there vary stupid and thy have child like minds. So if horus told them the empire wants them to kill in the name of Korn there literally to stupid to understand there being tricked.
That's still typically how Ogryns wind up "falling" to Chaos. Their leaders turn and the Ogryn stay loyal to them.
Imagine turning an ogryns into a space marine
My ogryns on darktide are named Strongheim and Krump,,, cause they are strong and krump stuff to the ground.
Somewhat hampered by crippling claustrophobia and a general fear of vehicular transportation. For Imperial guard duties, thats a big problem, considering that they like bunkers and troop transports.
Just put them in open top transports
Also, to add to this, those differences strands of humans are called "abhumans". And ogryns, despite their size and strength, are more offten then not gentle giants
You either raise them good or die
They are also loyal and lovable
I always thought they were a bad batch of space marines
Just human that trades big brain for big muscle for survival.
There are lots of crazy human variants - they're called Abhumans. Different from one off mutants which are tolerated but shunned socially
Who'd win in a fight?
A highly trained sniper blessed by the God of Decay and Disease, with a body count in the hundreds.
Or.
A giant toddler with a fucking rock.
FOR THE EM'PRAH
Incase anyone trys to deny the danger level of the Orgyn id like to a piece of lore where nork dedog beat a chaos terminator to death with the butt of his ripper gun
Whoever using Ogryn using in Darktide seriously has the same habit and tendency to block Veteran from shooting.
Oh Sorry! 😊
YOU KILLED BOB
Ive heard of an older version of ogryn who were as smart as a space marine
During the Horus Heresy, there was basically a space marine version of an ogryn that could only be beaten by Horus
I’m pretty sure an Ogrym would be the worst thing for high gravity.
You’d want to be lower to the ground and preferable on more than two legs.
If you look at the body ratio, their legs are shorter and stockier compared to regular humans. I think it is more than just high gravity. Ogren’s usually came from planets that had high gravity, low technology, and natural threats (like dangerous animals).
They live such simple lives. Im jealous, really
Commissar: *slaps ogryns bald ahh head*
“This bad boy can kill so many heretics.”
I shudder to think what one of these guys could do if given space Marine augmentation..
My favorite art of 40k is an ogryn ripping open a killa can with his bear hands
Ogryns are humanity's best buds, especially because they're normally pals with the comissars, and saying otherwise will likely get you shot
Momma always said; it’s an ogryns job to protect people from bullies and hera-ticks so that’s what ogryn does.
Momma doesn’t lie.
The only thing that's tough for a space marine, is another space marine
And an Ogryn
Its funny how diverged Ogryns and ogres are as beings; Ogres in fantasy are crude, cannibalistic monsters who, while they can be reasoned with, as a race are brutish raiders.
Ogryns on the other hand, while strong and capable of horrific violence if told to, are absurdly loyal and strangely purehearted beings who you can trust with your life so long as you're not a xenos.
And why are ogres turned into a human subspecies because of Shrek!!!
"if you played any darktide" bruh ... 💀💀💀
Don't forget about their big hearts
My favorite class in the game
And one of my favorite species in 40k
For Gav n Bob.
Gav missed Bob so much, potato peels just don’t taste the same anymore.
What would happen if an Ogryn would become a Space Marine?
In the old lore ogryns we’re so devoted to the emperor they couldn’t fall to chaos. Any ogryns fighting for the traitors were tricked into fighting loyalists believing them to be the traitors lol
I wonder how a space marine ogryn would turn out
I wonder how strong one would be if they got the space marine augments…
Survivability, durability, brute strength, and bad teeth.
40k Ogryns exist longer than the whfantasy ogres tho
Do they? Isn’t Fantasy like 10 years older?
Many times I’ve heard “up ya go spark ‘ead
Dude, literally an ogryn beat a chaos space marine to death with his own helmet, these guys are capable of throwing and manhandling space marines like rag dolls (IF the ogryns can get their hands on a marine cuz marines are super quick)
Ogryn have been armored and armed akin to a space marine, I believe it was during the Horus Heresy. They fought on par with chaos space marine chapters. Better in some cases.
Love me Emprah
Love me rations
Love me gun
Simple as.
They're like some kind of dollarstore astares
"In one of my Warhammer 40k books, I read about an incredible feat - an Ogryn who, despite being gravely wounded, managed to take down seven World Eater Chaos Space Marines with nothing but sheer strength and determination. This story reminds us that even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds, we all have the potential to rise up and achieve greatness."
Ogryn are human descendants from harsh high gravity worlds.in fantasy ogres are a cousin species to humans.you can kinda look at it like both humans and ogres being descended from homo erectus but the old ones made the ogres and humans separate races
Scientifically... I think in heavy gravity condition, smaller stature is more advantageous as they would suffer from less gravity relative to structural integrity....
But as anything can happen, why not?
I could see both as long as their bones and muscles could handle the gravity better. Either small and dense or large and dense (and strong)
@@randybutter1638 Yep. That could happen too.
Though it would require denser bones of different structure or components, muscular structure, and different metabolic action,...
meaning more mutation than simple smaller size... but possible nonetheless especially if the condition of the habitat denies weak, small humans.
Well the Squats also came from high gravity environment, they are inline with this logic
someone in the comments also said that the ogryns originated from a high gravity penal colony where it only the strongest survived, so that could explain why they are so big
It's implied in some sources that ogryns were actually created through genetic engineering and used as menial labor and as brutes during the gene wars
Oi, Commissar, found our breacher
Mankind best friends
Alpha Legionnaire posing as Ogryn. Astarte-sized Guardsman will be suspicious, but Ogryn? Just slap some fake muscles on Marine and he is good to go. No one will bat an eye that he is two meters tall and able to carry crates of ammo in one hand - as it is what Ogryns (and Marines...) are.
Ogryn are not expendable in the eyes of the guard or commisars!
Thats just ivan he plays in every movie with a skinny whute dude and big ass russian enforcer
Ogren don't die as much as regular toops. I wouldn't call them expendable.
Haven’t you seen shrek?? They’re onionoids
Game dialogue makes me think a rattling will be added to darktide
Or are they dancers....
The real answer for ehat they are is...
they're the best of us
Funny because high Gravity makes things smaller not bigger
Thems da big ol’ stompy gits
Ugh, reminds me of the beautiful story of the Ogryn and his dear Inquisitor…
Moral support juggernaut
If it was heavy gravity they would be short
Maybe they did (like the Squats), but grew over time again since they chose to live topside and fight. 40 thousand years is plenty time to have such variations. They are likely just adapted, not necessarily mutated.
Imagine an Ogryn space marine chapter
Are they human? Or are they dancers?
Ogryns are humans (well, a subspecies of human), but are also the 40k equivalent of WHFB's Ogres. These two things are not mutually exclusive. Like how the 40k equivalent of beastmen are also just abhumans and not strictly Chaos.
>Be me Officer in the Imperial guard.
>Be nice to the new Squad of Ogryns, cause it might be their last days.
>Orks start invading, I am on the frontlines.
>A Ork manages to break into the trench starts to slaughter guardsmen
>Start to brawl the Ork with my sword, but lose it.
>Accept my fate as the Ork is about to cleave me in two.
>Hear "Protect frend!" From behind
>See squad of Ogry rip the Ork apart
>Now have loyal Ogryn bodyguard squad, all cause I gave one a shiny sticker for peeing in the right spot.
What if a ogryn became a space marine
Unfortunately, it is not possible. Their mutations would likely cause even more issues for them with a gene seed being involved.
Paint a ogryn green and see if orcs mistake it for one of there own
Then why not make space marine ogryns? With full armor suits etc... A bit like a walking dreadnought, but swifter.
Cool fun fact about Ogryns.
The average Ogryn is taller than Primarch Roboute Guilliman
