I knew that 'Anatomy for Artists' would come in handy one day! I still have it from my student days. 👍
Books...not just for reading.
A Quint makeup tutorial would be awesome. I want to make a Quint costume too, but I can’t grow facial hair.
It's going to happen. You can do a lot with a fake mustache and some spirit gum.
love it, i’ve been dressing up as Quint since I was probably 7 lol. Looks great though, still trying to get that 70s levi’s shirt.
He's an awesome character. Yeah, that Levis shirt. Someday I'll own one. Sometimes patience pays off. I'm just gonna sit by my pole and nibble on my crackers and wait for that fish to come to me. Maybe I'll see one in a thrift shop at some point. It could happen.

you’d be surprised, we definitely do get some similar stuff. Gotta keep checking.
Love the set you put together for this.
@@kleverstudios Thanks for compliment. Amazing what you can do with a canvas drop cloth and a couple of C-stands. Yeah, you never know. I found a U.S. Wings Indiana Jones jacket in a thrift shop for $25. I've found vintage Levis trucker and rancher jackets in my local thrift shop as well. The hunt continues!
Quints jacket may not be an anachronism. It's possible he stayed in the Navy post war, into Korea and later, it's also possible he was in the Naval Reserve or Coast Guard reserve in the 50s or 60s.
It's also possible he picked it up surplus, those things were sold by the bale into the 90s. Thr name tag isn't USN style until the 50s, so it could be something he added later to not lose the jacket. If he was working a job or job site surplus would have been common work wear and easy to grab the wrong coat
Just some thoughts.
true
If you look at Quint's hat, he folds it at about 2/3 rds, and gives it a fin look.
very cool!
I've always loved Quint's M1951 field jacket and I had the same thoughts; although not WW2 issue ,could he have possibly served through the Korean War as well and it's something he'd kept, or possibly purchased from a surplus store as a work jacket? Whatever the back story, it's an iconic piece of film history.
I have an M51 and a Levis orange tag shirt ( unfortunately a 70s large is not the same cut as today!)
good cinematic eye. you don't have to sQuint
lol.
I don't think Us navy wore army issue jackets in ww2 so I don't think it's a mistake in the film I like to think Quint probably picked it up for a few bucks in an army surplus store or flea market after the Korean war they were probably numerous and cheap, of course now these are worth many hundreds and very hard to get hold of.
I don't think Navy wore them either. They're army jackets. That's an interesting theory. Idk why he'd slap his WWII nametag on it, but Quint's a complicated guy, so who knows? You don't have to pay many hundreds for a Korean era M-1951. The one I'm wearing in this video is an M-1951. Most are in the $45 to $60 range.
@@JDJohnston9906753 I live in the UK and these jackets a true original is very hard to get hold of I tried many years ago looking at yours it looks the real deal and the colour is correct something that the replicas just don't seem to get quite right although it looks in almost too good a condition (maybe it was surplus and never issued),I like the idea Quint maybe had been drafted for the Korean war and went straight into the army avoiding the Navy and the terrible memories it would invoke remember in the movie he has had the USS Indianapolis tattoo removed so he doesn't have to look at it and remind him of his ordeal.
@@truemansparks Ah I see. They're more difficult to find in UK then eh? That makes sense I suppose. They're all over the place here. It was the opposite for me when I tried to find the suitcase Indiana Jones uses in 'Raiders'. It's an English leather suitcase that's widely available in Uk, but almost impossible to find here in the U.S. I finally found one, but it took years of looking. Yeah, perhaps Quint fought in Korea also. I wouldn't imagine he'd want to join back up after his Indianapolis experience, but again, who knows?
What’s the name of the maker of the mustache and side burns on Etsy?
I ordered from this shop.
www.etsy.com/shop/FalseMustache There are a number of vendors making yak hair mustaches, beards, wigs, etc. The model I wanted sold out, and I had to go with a backup one that didn't really end up working out so well. I'm not sure I'd recommend these guys tbh. It also got stuck in the ether for way too long. I didn't receive the piece for months. They're based in Ukraine I think...that could bet even dicier now due to the current situation. Not sure.
Also for guys who need bigger sizes What Price Glory is reproducing M51 field jackets
nice! WPG makes great repro stuff. My Indiana Jones satchel and one of my Indy shirts are from WPG.
his first name is Samuel
Yeah, some yahoo at Universal Studios made that up & slapped that on some promotional material. Peter Benchley intentionally didn't give him a first name. Spielberg didn't give him a first name. We're not meant to know his first name. It might be Sam, but it also might not be. It's as good as anything I suppose.
Quint not a Men's M65 Field Coat Jacket
Quint wears an M1951 Field Coat, as stated in the video.
