  • This time we take a look around the town of Axbridge in Somerset which gets often overlooked in favor of the nearby Cheddar Gorge. We take a walk up to Fry's Hill which is behind the town before visiting the 1960's/70's comedian Frankie Howard's grave which is nearby in the village of Meare

That was a well earned pint Martin. I was well impressed with the view from the top after the long hike up. One of the best ive seen in a while. Beautifully captured and narrated with the local history.

Thanks a lot. It was a bit of a hike up as Axbridge is not that much above sea level & the hill was around 230m high. The pub is one of our favourites even though its an hour from where we live. The food is very good home cooked. Just how I like it. 👍

Thanks. The pub is our favourite even though its an hour from where we live. The food is home cooked & is really tasty. We seen on another video about Frankies grave & didn't realise it was near where he lived so it was nice to see but it was very understated as you mentioned. It's in a lovely quiet location though. 😊😊

Axbridge looks like such a picturesque walk and the first church you walked through looks very beautiful. Loved the views back to thr reservoir and the food at the end looked delicious.
P.S Roads are always a pain on walks - even more so when they don't have pavements 🤣

Yes it's a lovely place that gets overlooked because of the nearby Cheddar Gorge. The pub is our favourite for hospitality & food even though its an hours drive from where we live. 😊

    Hi Martin!
I think I have only been to Axbridge once, and that was all to briefly. I have been meaning to do some of the Strawberry Line as part of my Lost Railway Walks series, so this could be a good combination.
Very attractive village, and , in my opinion, better than Cheddar, which is too tourist overblown, though, of course, the gorge is still stunning.
    Wonderful walk and village too.
    Lovely video.
    Take care both,
    Paul

Hi Paul. Yes the Strawberry line would a good one to do for your railway series. We've cycled part of it in the past . Axbridge does get overlooked in favour of Cheddar but like you said is a nicer village & it's only a 5 minute drive to our favourite eating place. The White Hart pub in Cross. Cheers Paul. 😊
