The only veggies in chicken and dumplings were onion and garlic, and maybe celery... unless it was chicken dumpling soup... then it definitely had celery, garlic, carrots, and green pepper and more broth. 😊
LAast night I put onions, celery & carrots in my rolled flat dumplings with chicken. For the first time I added some cream of chicken in the chicken stock. I made 200 dumplings. Hubby said it is the best pot I ever made.
Its so comforting to hear someone talk the same way you do...the pumpkin pie spice ..about yay much.❤️ The pie will definitely be on my Thanksgiving table... 😋 Yum.

I enjoy your videos so much. A big part of the joy of cooking is creativity. If you want to add peas and carrots then that is your way of making your chicken and dumplings. I'm a 73-year-old Kentuckian. I was fortunate to grow up going to visit my grandparents, great-grandparents, great-aunts, and great-great aunts. All the women were wonderful southern cooks. When they made chicken and dumplings, they started by going out back to the hen house and getting a chicken. (They all lived on farms.) None of them every had veggies of any kind in the chicken and dumplings. They served bowls of fresh veggies in the summer and home-canned veggies in the winter.
So sorry to hear of the sickness in your family. Hope this finds her feeling much better. I make my chicken and dumplings like my granny and mom did. I make my dough with Formula L and milk. I make more of a drop dumpling. It's thinner than biscuit dough...but a bit thicker than pancake mix. I cook the chicken and add broth, butter, salt and will pepper the top of the dumplings. I have the broth and chicken boiling and drop the dough in by tablespoons. Pepper the top and cook them until done. The texture is that of a light, fluffy biscuit. Yum. I can't even begin to thank you for the crockpot recipes! I was married for 25 years and now I've been divorced for two years and I live on my own. I have no interest in cooking for just myself and I have a bad habit of grabbing fast food on the way home from work every night. I'm looking to use my crockpot and cook enough for two so I can take leftovers to work the next day. Thank you so much for the wonderful recipes! I appreciate it so much!!

I don't remember ever having veggies in chicken and dumplings but I think I would like it that way. I liked all of the recipes you fixed in this video. I love crock pot ideas.
Rather than buying pre-mixed spice concoctions, I prefer to buy granulated garlic, granulated onion, and mixing those together and adding some fresh-cracked pepper to the mix. Use salt as you prefer and in the long run, this is cheaper than the pre-mixed stuff. Love your channel!!

My Mama Rosie’s chicken and dumplings were the best and she didn’t put vegetables into them. Gotta agree with your father in law on that 😀. She made them completely from scratch, and she did make the rectangle shape like you did (so do I). She had an old, soft cotton bedsheet that she kept in a flour container and that’s what she rolled them out on. Now, her son, my father, did occasionally make them from biscuits and cream of chicken soup and they were still very good, but he also didn’t put vegetables in them. I, too, do not put vegetables in them. But, if you had offered me a bowl of yours, I would have been very happy to have them! 😀.

Oh my! These all look delicious!! Thanks, Mel. I now have some new recipes I'm looking forward to trying this Winter. I use my pizza cutter too, to cut my dumpling dough. Works like a charm. I'm going to try your Granny's tip of salt and peppering the dough. I've never done that. We never added veggies but I like the idea of adding the peas and carrots. Comfort food for sure. 💗

I don’t remember Mawmaw ever putting any veggies but we did do biscuits for the dumplings. We also used cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup in dumplings. Delicious! I love all your recipes, thank you for the recipes you share and your time!
I’ve never heard of Auntie Nonos till I watched you and Mandy in the making. You said that it’s salt, garlic and onion powder, so I made my own but I used season salt instead of salt and man oh man is it good!!! ❤ watching your videos

My Memaw (grandma) raised me. She would put veggies in with her chicken and dumplings in hers if she had them, if not they still came out great. Same way with her chicken noodle soup

I had to laugh a little when you said you had to get your leveler out, I have a very special crock pot that my Sweet Mama gave me, she has gone to be with the Lord now, the knob broke off, I used needle nosed pliers for a long time, then when I replaced on cook stove, I took a knob off the old one. I had actually made chicken and dumplings in the crock for the first time today. I usually make them on the stove. I’ve never had chicken and dumplings with vegetables before. My family and everyone else I know cooked them with just chicken and dumplings. The vegetables would be a nice addition every once in a while. These crockpot recipes look delicious. I just added a couple of new crockpots to my collection and have been using them several times a week now. Love your channel.

My great granny always used celery, carrots and onion in hers, but that was so it flavored the stew and extended the pot. She was one of 12 kids… so that’s how we make it too.
I don't know if I've ever commented before but I do enjoy your videos. They remind me of home. Makes me want to cry, actually, because I miss my people in the little town where I grew up and the home cooked meals we shared.

My grandmother made her dumplings with just dark meat chicken and broth. I was never a big fan of dumplings, no matter how they were made, but my mother loved them and made hers the same way.
Mom always made her dumplings without veggies. She also made butter dumplings. Im going to try the pie, going to try and make it sugar free. Hope it works❤❤❤❤
Butter dumplings sounds like something I'd be down for 😊👍🏼 and I bet it will turn out great with the sugar free versions of the ingredients.
Oh, I would LOVE to hear the results for the sugar free pie version. I'm diabetic so no desserts for me... and that means nobody else gets them either. 😂
😊About chicken and dumplings. My Grandma added carrots and celery. The dumplings were essentially Bisquick drop biscuits. I love that kind of dumpling the best even now.
I about fell off my chair when you put the chicken broth in the first recipe. I'm gonna try the cheesy chicken without any chicken broth. I've made a similar recipe in the oven. There's plenty of liquid with the onions. The Rotel liquid, the tomatoes, the butter in the stuffing and the cream of chicken soup! Thanks this looks great. Hey Mel, I have never made Chicken & Dumplings, but ur the chef and adding veg is always a healthy boost, so I'll prob add them too! I just love how they "cook" in just steam & indirect heat! I think you'd like this alot, I liked it almost as much as the regular crockpot chicken and stuffing I make in the crockpot. And hope you give the chicken and dumplings a try, they were great. Thanks so much for remembering my family in your prayers, we've been hit pretty hard the last few months with some hard diagnosis and other unexpected illnesses, and I know my family is just one of many walking these hard roads together. We just do the best we can to take care of our loved ones, trust in the Lord, and keep our chins up. 👍🏼😊🙏 I just don't know what people do without the Lord and family to lean on, good times and hard ones, too. I adore chicken and dumplings but my mum uses her mum’s recipe for dumplings and does the drop method as it is more like a fluffy biscuit and she puts veg in hers but either way it’s damn good and I look forward to your videos every week

Growing up, I never had vegetables in my chicken and dumplings. Nobody I knew put them in there, including the onion and celery. Just yummy chicken and that thick wonderful gravy. Problem is, I’ve never made a good pot of dumplings! I’ve tried!

Our chicken and dumplings always had celery, onion, peas, and carrots in it so that it was a complete meal all on its own. That way we only needed a big bowl of it and a spoon. Little bity clean-up and no fuss. My mom used to make the dumplings from Bisquick drop biscuits. They were great too!
My grandma made chicken and dumplings (home-made) all the time and we loved it! She did not include any veggies. But, I do sometimes and the fam loves them with our without.

God Bless always to you and your family as my own just started watching. We have been watching back eposides this week and know how to alter stuff vegetarian. My husband was raised in the south and Served the USMC when we meet through chatting online after 9/11 as pen pails. We have been married 20 years together longer. We have an adult child with autism and I am disabled which happened during a freak accidental fall during Covid. My husband was craving more southern style meals and glad we found you. I had some ideas but now expanded my horizon more of oh yeah I can replace this and that. Thanks again and even my son relaxes from spectrum effects watching. He keeps telling me mom she's very calm and can we try that but replace this and that. Tamale Pie and Chicken and Dumplings with some changes think are right up my husbands alley. All of these looked so good. My mom always used the canned biscuits for the dumplings. I love them cooked like that. I think she added veggies. I really don’t think I can pick a favorite from this video.
