    Much of the commentary is missing the point of the exercise. Ness is trying to say that proper footwork is strong, and requires physical strength and speed, whereas good power is more about flexibility and momentum. Powerful movement is explosive, and good spin moves are more graceful than anything. He isn't repudiating spins, nor is he trying to get people to change their focus in the dance, it's simply his perspective.

    No one can never nail footwork like Alienness

  • @bboyStuntZ
    @bboyStuntZ Před 10 lety +1

    The only time I can think of when it takes more strength to do footwork compared to powermoves is for example headspins vs footwork. Headspins, when you get them good? Are easy. Takes allot less energy to do headspins than it does a fast footwork combination. However most powermoves, take more energy to do than footwork combos. Flares, windmills, airflares, halos, any rotating moves especially, take more strength to do than footwork.

  • @franticmotionz
    @franticmotionz Před 10 lety +5

    There are many different types of "Power" in our craft. There are many different ways to express those types of "Power". Physical strength, the ability to lift yourself, project yourself and control your body in motion is only one part of our art. The "Power" of wich I believe Ness is speaking is the power that comes from the energy the move creates with in as well as what it takes physicaly to accomplish it. He is voicing his opinion so for some he is right for others he is wrong. Our craft is and always will be based on the INDIVIDUAL. Its up to you to interpret things in your own way. To NOT atleast try to see both points of view just prooves what a lame you are. The objective is to expand your dance vocab so you can get your point across and be well rounded in your skills. So with that being said.....we can all agree that BBoying and ALL its elements is powerfull and those that persue ALL the angles will proove to be the "MOST POWERFUL" what ever your format is. Power heads will always need more tradition and style but lets face it, in this day and age you need a little of everything. Ness is right though, for me......a super technical footwork set full of intracet patterns and beat kills is more powerful than a powermove set that is bound by the laws of physics and limited in its ability to represent the music. It is after all a dance above anything else.
    Peace,
    FC

    And another thing. You little comparison of momentum vs generating power. With powermoves, although momentum helps, it only helps up to a point. You still gotta bust ur ass pushing yourself while doing the move, especially when doing combos. It takes a lot less energy and strength to do most footwork steps than it does to do powermoves. It also depends how the powermoves are done as well.

      You really don't, a lot of it relies on a good core and balance, I've seen lanky skinny dudes hit windmills and jackhammers it's not uncommon

  • @realkef

    anything can be power, money is power, knowledge is power, but footwork is footwork, and powermoves are power moves

  • @candiedsean
    @candiedsean Před 10 lety

    I think when he says you don't need "power" in power moves is because you don't need power to use it. Like when he says that kids can do airflares, HE IS CORRECT. Airflares, flares, windmills, floats, headspins is ALL technique.
    Once you have the technique and you have it 100% down, you can just use the momentum of gravity to keep you going while in footwork you have to generate power and momentum in EACH step. ( or thats how Poe-one/Aileness says that how it was done)

    I don't see why some of you guys who are commenting are saying "this interview is going to limit... etc.. etc.." If anything, you are misunderstanding the whole interview. Learn to take in knowledge and use it for your own being. Stop thinking that "because an OG said this, it must be done like this"
    Be mindful of the free knowledge and be grateful that Strife TV would even put this video out to public.

    Interesting. Though technically powermoves aren't refered to "the fastes an stronger moves" or any other kind of superior hierarchy but to those which focus on creating circular inertia mainly without touching the floor with your feet. Just a technical point out. In such definition footwork would never strictly be powermoving. Hope it helped.

    The only thing about footwork that is harder than power is to get the same reaction or better as powermoves. Harder to get people going crazy and cheering by only doin a footwork set. But powermoves in general are physically harder to do no question about it.

    @bboyxbox Před 10 lety +2

    Actually those 10 year olds are more powerful than you because they're busting power moves and you're doing footwork lol sometimes it seems the people start off trying to learn power moves, then when they realize how much power you need to execute, and they can't do it so they revert to footwork. And then they swear up and down that footwork is the true art of be bboyin' lol

  • @FlowerBoyWorld
    @FlowerBoyWorld Před 10 lety

    just saying, if you look at what power really means, it is not strength. power is the amount of strength you can produce in a very short period of time, or with high speed as you amy put it. so power isn't really a movement type used often in breaking, speed is far more common. actually the most basic power movements used in breaking are jumps and therefore flips as well.
    also, if ness and legs talk openly about each other, don't just believe everything they say .. there's much background there

    Bboy Zeon then why isn't footwork called power moves?..i suppose top rocks are the original footwork then,and crossing your arms is the original top rocks and ballet is the original bboying?

    • @BboyZeon
      @BboyZeon Před 9 lety

      Cuz in bboying there are many different genre of moves. First of all toprock is one category, then footwork for itself, powermoves, blow-ups etc. You can have strong footwork if you keep practicing it. Stating ballet is the original bboying is bollocks. Bboying is so many things, do not forget bboying comes from all the dance genres around the world. Define bboying your way the best you can to describe your identity

  • @bboyStuntZ
    @bboyStuntZ Před 10 lety +2

    oh please. Please stop with the Airflares, flares, windmills, floats, headspins is ALL technique. THAT IS A LOAD OF BULLLLLLLL SHIT!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Do you know how much training goes into airflares, flares, headspins etc? Technique is only how you do the move. But if your body isn't conditioned to do the move, it doesn't matter how much technique you have, you ain't getting it! Gotta stretch and exercise in order to do the move as well as have the right technique.

    when i see interviews like this i always lose some respect for people.
    bboying should be free, it's an artform.
    it's like there are trends being set to stop people doing what they are capable of doing.
    i see kids grow up learning just footwork and severely limiting their style because it's the cool thing to do or it's because it's original.
    trying to be "original" is the easiest way to be a copy.
