The Battle of Hannut was one of the significant engagements during the early stages of World War II. It took place in May 1940, during the German invasion of Belgium and France. Hannut, a town in Belgium, was the site of a major clash between German and Allied forces.
The battle occurred as part of the larger Battle of Belgium, which marked the German invasion of Western Europe. The German Army, employing its blitzkrieg tactics, sought to swiftly advance through Belgium and into France, bypassing the heavily fortified Maginot Line.
Despite the initial successes of the French and Belgian forces in disrupting the German advance, the battle ultimately ended in a German victory.
