    That sounds like such a massive hassle! What I got out of this video: if you buy a bike, get the title. :D

    thanks for sharing! it took me 6 months to get a title for a used motorcycle! Lienholders, blah blah blah, I paid cash but it was horrible!
    I guess at some point "the people" decided we need to cover all the bases to make sure someone doesn't get screwed.
    but geez! lots of hoops for an honest guy trying to make an honest transaction.

    I bought two 1984 Honda 350s, one XR and one XL. No title for either. Went to Utah DMV, and they gave me paperwork to fill out and have a cop come and inspect serial numbers and file a report. If clean, then I'll get more instructions. But it doesn't sound like Utah is nearly as much hoop-jumping as CO. I've been nervous, but with your link to the vin report, neither one shows any bad history, so thanks for that.

    Man O Live, what a deal, It is not hardly even possible to make a dirt bike street legal here. Holy smokes, what a deal, does not sound like fun at all. I will say this, you are doing a great job sticking with it and I am sure by the time you make this bike street legal, it will be well worth all the non-sense you have been though to get it there. Thanks again for sharing and have a blessed week.

    The NICB database only shows vehicles that were stolen AND insured... If you don't have it insured, and it gets stolen, and someone checks that database, it won't show. SO you should ALWAYS call the police first when buying on bill of sale, and they will run the VIN and tell you if it is stolen. Just because it doesn't snow in NICB doesn't mean it isn't stolen. :(

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  Před 7 lety

      Good point. Depending on where it was stolen your home owners policy could cover it.

  • @keithert

    In Illinois it is quite common not to register offroad vehicles. It costs $100+ to apply for a title.

    • @HermitDaVlog
      @HermitDaVlog  Před 7 lety

      Really that's it. You can steal a dirt bike and get a title and plate by just kicking in an extra $100? That's some mafia BS there.

    • @keithert
      @keithert Před 7 lety +1

      No, you have to pay $100 to have it put in your name. My sons bike has a signed title from 2 owners back. No one wants to pay the $100.

    The exact thing happened to me when I bought a wrecked bike from an insurance company.
    Long story short, I paid 400$ for a wrecked motorcycle.
    Paid 600$ to get it road worthy.
    Paid 900$ for the paperwork.
    Still was a great bike but dang that paperwork stung.

I had found out the same as you have about a bill of sale and getting a real title for it. I sold it 3 mos later with a bill of sale. It wasn't worth the time and effort I 'll never again buy without a title.

    Wow sorry to here that story that does kinda suck. I thought Id leave ya a comment to maybe give ya a bit of a bright side though. I have a clean titled 1998 XR 400 that I love but I had to dish out $2500 for mine because the previous owner new what he had and wouldn't budge. It is in pretty good condition with the Dakar dual sport kit and it was the least expensive one, of very few for sale at the time, that I could find in a 500 mile radius. I think if I remember you got yours for a great price! Like around a grand maybe? So even after the hassle and the extra bit of cash you still got a great bike for a great deal in my opinion! Cant wait to see how you tricked it out.

  • @aseredy
    @aseredy Před 7 lety +2

    That sucks dude. I had something similar with my first bike. I bought a mint Ninja 250 off this really nice chick. She was having trouble selling it. People would ask some questions about the title and vin, then she'd never hear from them again. So she dropped the price really low. I didn't think anything of it at the time. Hand her $1300, which was $1700 less than blue book at the time, and she signs over the title. Just thought "fuggin sweet. Got me a bike for an incredible price!!"... Get home and look at the tile?!? Massive "Lien" stamped across the top. FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
    Start calling banks. One bank sold the account to another, who sold it to yet another, and then an other... then back to the first bank again. Just following the crazy web. Terrified that I'm out $1300 and/or a bike I fell in love with. Over 20 calls to different banks begging for help. No one could tell me who owned the lien... because (and this was the part where my spirits lifted).... No one DID own the lien. Had to get in touch with the records department, not open accounts... The account had been satisfied by the first owner, and they never requested a new title. (NY is one of the few (maybe only) states where a title can be transferred, and debt associated with that property does not necessarily transfer with the title to the new owner.) NY is dumb. Any how, I requested a Release of Lien... got the bike registered/insured and was super happy it worked out. I victory punched the air a shitload of times.
    I wrecked the bike 2 months later. face palm/
