      I was just reading/googling about them last night and took pics like i do every couple weeks for my gardening journals of all my plants. I was so excited. I grow them every year for twenty plus years. This is first type called little fingers. It is literally the size of a man fingers. Perfect IMO for stir fries. Grilled veggies etc. I was bragging to my cousin. 1st mistake, who lives in South and I want yall to know that I woke up this morning and that thing was half dead. Riddled with flea beetles holes all over my beautiful leaves
      I had same thought and took off 75% of leaves and I put in new pot with brand new dirt. That dirt was last years. We shall see. I am this many years old before I have even encountered such a wretched ruthless lil demons.

    As a kid gardening with my Dad in Kansas, those flea beetles were a real challenge. I have a lot of flea beetles in the summer, here in Oregon's Willamette Valley. But they aren't on my eggplants -- they go for the new wild field mustard plants. The wild field mustard really takes a beating in the hot summer weather, but new plants will sprout in cool weather and give a nice crop. So it's a decent tradeoff, I think. It's sure a lot better than having the flea beetles riddle my eggplant leaves. Have a great 2019 garden season!

      @MidwestGardener  Před 5 lety +2

      They can really survive quite a bit of abuse from insects when they get some good size. All of those plants produced well. I don't stress too much about the bugs, but I do try to keep their numbers down. Especially if the plants show any signs of stress.

    I saw that the leaves on my eggplant had developed many white spots. Initially I didn't take much notice but later on it kept happening to other leaves as well. Upon closer inspection I saw that the white spots actually had tiny green worms living within the foliage and they were making the green leaves white by eating the green part.
    What should I do in this situation? Severely infested leaves had to be removed as they had too many of these worms. But is there any way to prevent this from happening? My eggplant is just a few months old and has just started to develop flowers. Thank you🙏

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  Před 4 lety

      Sorry to hear that. I don't usually have any trouble with worms on our eggplants. If you are sure they are worms, you could use some insecticidal soap to knock their numbers down quickly, then use BT every 10 days to keep them in check.

    Hello! Thank you for sharing you’re video. I have an eggplant that has ants eating the leaves? Yesterday I noticed some small black bugs, I want to say that they are leaf hoppers? But I’m not so sure. I’ve already tried spraying peppermint to the plant and umm it’s not really helping. The plant itself looks healthy the leaves are at a great color and I don’t see any type of disease yet. I have around 5 flowers that growing on the plant but I’m afraid to touch it because they are so delicate. Do you have any recommendations? Today I will try applying Vaseline to the stem hopefully it’ll keep the ants away.

      Sorry to hear about the ants bothering your plants. I'm assuming they are fire ants. We don't have those here, so I don't have any experience with them. I do know that there are some baits that you can use to eradicate their colonies. I think I would visit a local nursery and ask what they would suggest. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help.

      I don't think they look like ants at all. If you put your finger near them, flea beetles will sometimes jump just like a flea does.
