Y Food Meal Replacements: A Normal Person's Review

- I've been exploring alternatives to Huel Meal Replacement Shakes - this week we're doing a Y food review, looking at the This is Food meal replacements - There are 3 variations, Y food Drinks, Y food Bars and Y Food Powder. I tried the Powder and the drinks, in Crazy Coconut and Cold Brew Coffee from the Y food Starter Pack, and the Apple and Cinnamon Y food Powder. I looked at the textures, the flavours and ease of use.

Tried the alpine chocolate shake yesterday - it was seriously good!
Just bought two packets vanilla and berry I replace breakfast when I'm on earlies 15 pound from holland and barrett which was a bargin so that's a bargin for the month I have a regular breakfast when I'm on lates the rest of the day regular meals I find I cut down on my calorie intake and yes in conjunction with a fakeaway service near me I ve lost a bit of weight not my goal just a way of cutting down and controlling my intake love this great help and great review 🤘
Hi mate, just come across your channel and really enjoying the varied content. A bit on the lactose-free bit. Whey is just a protein found in milk made up of amino acids. Lactose is a disaccharide sugar found in milk made up of glucose and galactose. Both are found in milk, but you don't find any sugar in protein as they are different macronutrients. Hope this helps.

@@LittleTipple My mum's lactose intolerant. Apparently she lacks the lactase enzyme which splits lactose into glucose and galactose. In lactose-free products, my understanding, they simply add the lactase enzyme artificially so your body doesn't have to do the job anymore.
I keep coming across your channel having all the videos I need to watch while looking up these products. However most of them are a couple of years old. Do you still make videos? as I enjoy your channel a lot.
Hi, having just bought my first sack of powder on my instructions (vanilla) it says 300 ml water to 4 scoops, you added 3 iirc???
You can buy the bottles at most supermarkets where I live and my neurodivergent, Ed recovering and depressed friends and I are big fans cuz if we don’t have energy or brainpower to force ourselves to cook a proper meal or even consume anything it’s easy to drink and it doesn’t give us sensory icks like some meal replacements do.
Genuinely it’s a great product to grab on the go or on your way home after a long day so you don’t go to bed without dinner.

But how long does the powder drink last once shaken? Is it written somewhere?

I have tried the Yfood powder and away to order more Yfood powder coz I bought Huel powder and couldn’t drink those again always left a weird chemical taste in my mouth obviously it was the sweetener. But do love Huel's Hot & Savoury thou. But I definitely love Yfood plus I was surprised it tasted good.

This one definitely wasn't my favourite - i often found myself hungry fairly soon after too. I've got a video breaking down all my favourites on the channel, but Huel or Queal do it for me!

I’ve just received my taster pack for the powders, having my first one now but not sure what I think as to me the powder tastes different to the bottled ones
The bottled ones are quite nice - the powders just never seemed as good, and they don’t mix as well!
Tried the powder with milk today can say I Definitely prefer the powder with milk much better - with milk it nearly tastes the same as the pre-bottled ones
Should the scoops be somewhere in the bag? I can't seem to find them and don't know how to measure it correctly...
You probably found it by now, but yeah, had the same problem, didn't expect it to be buried that deep in the powder, was almost ready to contact support 😅
I've subscribed to yfood's replacement meals. They (500ml bottles) are awesome. I don't care for the packaging or that the bottle looks like yazoo. For me it's about doing "what it says on the tin" . And this delivered on all fronts. It's easy, it's quick, it stores unrefrigeratated for months. Tastes amazing (crazy coconut, fresh berry and crazy banana are my favourites) especially when chilled! It's lactose free (removed from the whey) and Gluten free I've nothing bad to say about the product! Go figure. Try it for yourself.

A very expensive Yazoo milkshake maybe?. I have been enjoying Queal so much! I'm lactose intolerant but have discovered that whey protein on its own causes me no issues. I'm converted from Huel. The only Huel I enjoyed was the unflavoured one and it sort of defeated the purpose to add my own flavourings and sweetener. I also enjoy that Queal has the vegan and diet options! 700 calories per meal seems a lot to me but you can easily divide the bags down into four 500 calorie meals. Loving this series!
Very expensive Yazoo! What is the other brand that I can’t think of the name of? There’s definitely another one! I think I’m converted away from Huel for the sweet shakes - definitely enjoying the hot and savoury, but there’s just more interesting stuff out there for the sweet! I miss Queal, need to order some more soon! I love the idea of breaking the bags into 4 rather than 3!
I try yfood it was better than big brand which upset my tummy and headache. Im big guy and busy so need alot food or feel crap i found yfood helped me so may get more

Thanks for this review, I'm going to try the powder but will mix it with skimmed milk instead of water. Ridiculous packaging on the bottles, so wasteful.
Lactose is a sugar found in milk this can be removed and you can now buy lactose free cows milk... hope this helps
They dont remove it, they use an enzyme to convert into glucose and galactose. Which is why lactose free milk tastes sweeter.

Always diversify meals, don't just eat the same stuff everyday for the rest of your life.
So just having one of these bottles for lunch wouldn't really be enough?
It’s 400 calories (I think, it’s been a while) so should be enough for lunch - it’s about the same as a supermarket sandwich…
@@LittleTipple Awesome. I've moved to using their powders, and use about 500 calories for lunch, which I think works better.

it taste like powder with water it's not great. the powder does not mix well. perhaps i should try to put the water before the water. I have vanilla, and it's good but the powder feeling is awful.
I will try to prepare them in advance and let them rest in the fridge.
I honestly prefer to buy a bottle of gaspacho if i don't have time, cut a tomato and it's done, it taste so much better.
How did you get on with resting them in the fridge? And you're right, they don't mix well - the pre-mixed are good, but I found the powders also seperate out after a while...

@@Lk77ful Try a mixer. They are a really cheap investment (20 ish dollars, just get the cheapest one) and are very useful in the long run. Plus you can change the flavor by adding your own stuff if you'd like.

so, german for "this is food" is "das is essen" - food isn't a german word, though it's used occasionally - I can only assume it's a tagline or some such, but it seems very front and centre on all their packaging...

i have had tried all of them , they are nice but, there is drwan back to me, they don't keep me full much longer and 100 Kcal more than Huel, i will go back to Huel as soon as my stock Yfood gone!, if you are running diet , 2 bottles of Huel it is just 800Kcal! instead of Yfood 1000Kcal!

Normal pack of five cost me almost twenty uk pounds, very expensive, less packaging should reduce the price. The idea is good, but not at these prices. I have tried the vanilla flavors, which did not taste of much vanilla.
The name confusion does my head in! 😂 I thought it was called “This is food” too! The YFood doesn’t makes sense. They should change the name to “Your Food” then YFood would work 😎 I’ll stick with Huel for now. Straightforward name, tasty, nutritious and vegan! Perfect!

If you are so set on having only "proper food" and would rather always pack food or buy something overpriced they want a massive tip for as well when out and about and are happy cleaning up after meals three or more times a day, then why are you even here? Enjoy the chore meals and constant inconvenience. I for one am glad for meal replacements. I save a lot of time and mental energy.

They have vegan options too. Obviously dairy free. Both in ready-made and powder form.

So, it can make you thinner, it can help you gain weight, or it can maintain your weight - just depends how much of it you use - but you’re absolutely right, it’s not for everyone, and the whole point for me is it doesn’t replace all my food, it just makes breakfast easier...

I was only saying, with a certain amount of tongue in cheek, that I would rather have a diet shake with as little calories as possible (90 odd calories) than to replace real, tasty etc etc food with one that has the calories this does. Who is going to just have one of these a day and nothing else!

Dude, yfoods in Down Under is from "You foods"... y = "you" . You repeat yourself many times as not understanding the y in yfoods. Its short for YOU-FOODS. Getting caught up in the name of the product and basing a critique with your "i just dont get it" takes away from your review.
