Yes, but that is precisely the point. Your argument stands null and void because Ribery didn't win the Ballon d'Or but Megan Rapinoe did. And Ribery had much more of a case to win it anyway, being as instrumental as he was that year while Rapinoe was nowhere close to being worthy. During the men’s soccer World Cup, there is so much hype in almost every country.
I can tell you in Singapore .... people take leave to watch it . Or they call in sick after watching in the early morning hours . It is reported in the news . Bars and restaurants will screen the matches . People who shout loudly waking up their neighbours. You cannot get away from it . People will talk about it on public transport and in the supermarket when queuing.
During women’s World Cup ..... nothing happens.
Hype is the right word. It's just being hyped and shoved into people's face, so people go along with it. I grew up watching men's football just because of that, because it's shoved into everyone's face. Once there's internet then people can leave the monopoly of tv and start realizing slowly that watching women's football is an option. So basically you cannot compare any number until the investment and hyping by the reporters are given equally to both.
