Снежная королева. Да, красива, да, благородна, да, получаешь эстетическое удовольствие, наблюдая её движения- и не более. Я далека от балета даже как зритель, но даже нечастое прикосновение а этому виду искусства даёт мне представление о великолепии Ульяны Лопаткиной, лучше балерины я не видела, такая лёгкость, проникновенность, не видно танца видно только чудо, которое происходит на сцене, руки как отдельный вид искусства. One other thing I love about her interpretation is the neutral and slightly aloof expression suitable to a queen, in contrast to all the frowning, almost-breaking-into-tears Odettes out there. Yes she's fragile and traumatized, but Odette is also falling in love in these scenes & doesn't have to look so constipated.
I agree. While Sylvie Guillem is just stunning in her presentation, she is very intense. This queen is more cautious, approaching love slowly and with judgement.

Lopatkina is unique. Her poise. Her grace. Her phrasing and musicality. Her port de bras, pas de bourrée. Her acting. Everything about her is pure poetry. Comparing Ulyana to Zakharova is just absurd to me, Lopatkina is another world! You'll never see Lopatkina getting her leg to the ear, she knows what elegance is; and when she dances you can literally "see" the music, she uses her body as a brush to paint the melody... all things that (in my opinion) are far, far, far away from Svetlana's gymnastic style.
IMO Zakharova and Lopatkina have many things in common. Their physionomy is very similar, same long limbs, same beautiful dramatic faces, maybe even the same height. The same 100% accomplished technique, the same delicate way of floating through the stage, the same musicality. The same emphasis (typically Russian) in the upper body. Gorgeous neck, arms and hands, that's Ulyana/Svetlana for me. Even their critics acuse them of similar flaws - lack of expression, too much emphasis on technique and flexibility. There is no need to diminish or (try to) inferiorize one of them to express our personal preference. Lopat has exactly the same range of hip mobility as Zakharova, whether she uses it or not is her choice. Zakharova's port de bras is superior IMO, she's also more expressive facially. There's nothing gymnastics-wide in lifting your leg to your ear as long as lines don't get distorted. In the end, every ballerina is supposed to tell a story with her body, that's what they do. We should feel lucky to see such dancers in our lifetime, instead of feeding pointless fights about who's better and who's not.
I absolutely agree with you. I specifically looked at other ballerinas-Lopatkina is something cosmic. She's not just graceful and gorgeous. She just hypnotizes, neither Zakharova nor Vishneva I have not seen this. Yes, they are good, but Ulyana is really a different world. And look at her in the Carmen Suite, it's gorgeous

Yes, Lopatkina AND her partner in this look like they are really in love. Even some of the Russian dancers have been disappointing in the area of emotion so for awhile stopped looking at ballet. She is exquisite.
Uliana is magnificent in each and every one of the ballets she has performed. Physical virtuosity and an interpretation of the character of her as a great actress. I am not saying that she deserves glory, but that she is already in the glory of great figures.

So refreshing not to see the splits with hip mis-alignment. This looked pure ballet and purity in execution and expression- with no need for sensational acrobatics that often lose the artistry
I just returned from the cinema where I tried to watch tThe star is born with Lady Gaga upon my friend ' s recommendation and raving reviews online......I galloped out of the movie as soon as it finished with such a shock how something like this can be liked ????? Came home and watched Lopatkina Dying Swan....and again....and here I am again....now my soul is at peace..... If only I could watch a professional recording on TV screen at home but I don't know where can find and buy it.
I appreciate both Zakharova and Lopatkina. I think they are both amazing dancers. The one I dont get in Swan Lake is Ossipova. she just seems wrong for it
Thanks for filming and posting this. The one thing I might add (and I've seen a lot of Odettes from a lot of companies) is I've never seen a ballerina articulate her body so beautifully at about 2:53 during the developpe/falls. Her body just ripples from her toes to her fingertips. My first reaction to the tempo was yikes! but worth it for that one movement, and she certainly fills every bit of the music. Was just going to watch White Swan but must see more! Is her Odile also this exceptional?
Her Odile is also absolutely top. A BR exist with the Swan Lake with Ulyana Lopatkina, Danila Korsuntsev, conducted by Valery Gergiev, recorded in Mariinsky theatre, released by DECCA. I am a happy owner of that, but not only that, I had the luck to could see that performance live wit her in Mariinsky theatre in Saint Peterburg. Third row in parter, left middle. I will never forget it.
@@kanady43 OMG lucky you! I did find most of the rest of the performance with some creative YT searching. I found a movie about her life on Amazon Prime. I was surprised to hear her say her favorite part is actually the queen in Legend of Love because I thought she was so well known for her Swan Queen (and Nikiya). Also surprised that her height is not an illusion due to her long, slender body and limbs. She (also Zakharova) is 5'9", which is a height I associate more with Balanchine! Someone also put me onto a full Bayadere with her, Tsiskaridze and Alexandrova, which is one of the best I've seen (and may be found here on YT.)

The POB corps may move with more precision and with more fluidity but to my eye, their dancing lacks energy from their centre. It’s as if their limbs are disconnected from their body. Even the principals dance like this. The MT corps dance with a palpable energy emanating from their torso. They don’t even have to be moving; just standing there in tendu derriere with their arms crossed low in front of them, you can see and FEEL how alive they are as a body, which is what “corps” means.
Ulyana 's bourrees are better , her porta bra is better , her choice of choreography is way better ....You cant just just do develope ela secound to your ear and 95 deggree arabesque and call it Odette

Totally agree! I can't stand all the face-acting some ballerinas do. They either look constipated or like they have blisters on their feet.

ロパートキナの動きって一つ一つが最後まで丁寧。怖いくらい正確だけど、優美。脚の上げ方ひとつでも、流れずに綺麗な軌道にハマってるというか。
王子役の男性は、オデットに惚れ込んでる王子の細かい表情とか動きがわざとらしくなくて本当に王子が降りてきてるように思う。
大げさじゃないのに情景が伝わってきて、すっごく好きなアダージョです。
白鳥の湖は、ロパートキナが一番踊り が綺麗です。 引退する前に見られなかったのが残念です。ザハロワの白鳥の湖を見たけど、かないません

The POB corps may move with more precision and with more fluidity but to my eye, their dancing lacks energy from their centre. It’s as if their limbs are disconnected from their body. Even the principals dance like this. The MT corps dance with a palpable energy emanating from their torso. They don’t even have to be moving; just standing there in tendu derriere with their arms crossed low in front of them, you can see and FEEL how alive they are as a body, which is what “corps” means.
