    Join the Origins Project at ASU for the final night in the Origins Stories weekend, focused on the science of storytelling and the storytelling of science. The Storytelling of Science will feature a panel of esteemed scientists, public intellectuals, and award-winning writers including well-known science educator Bill Nye, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins, theoretical physicist Brian Greene, Science Friday's Ira Flatow, popular science fiction writer Neal Stephenson, executive director of the World Science Festival Tracy Day, and Origins Project director Lawrence Krauss as they discuss the stories behind cutting edge science from the origin of the universe to a discussion of exciting technologies that will change our future. They will demonstrate how to convey the excitement of science and the importance helping promote a public understanding of science. The panel discussion is sure to be a provocative and entertaining finale to our Origins Stories events. We look forward to seeing you there!

      John McKay So you don't even have basic mathematics, science and logic: well for free zero equals nothing and 1 equals absolute certainty.
      Absolutely anything is an infinite compared to zero. It's why the Big Bang happened, maybe you can try and rap your mind around from one particle came the entire universe.
      Zero is awful, having no Nobel prizes and having the nerve to lambast others, oh and to bring his college into disrepute as well. Dawkins reminds me of a gobby kid who'll go and get his brothers if his bullying doesn't work and someone splats him. Of course all around the world there there are those who are as cowardly as he is, and in fact much worse.

      This was eight years ago, and since then, Neil was right. String Theory is obsolete. Many grants and funding-many many grants and funding-have done nothing but been a waste of money. Greene is still spewing string in argument for this theory when it is proven it can not answer anything. In this timeframe we have a new theory, as of 2014: Emergence Theory-E8-of Quantum Gravity. Garrett Lisi found the answers with mathematical theorem, and with that knowledge has started a group known as Quantum Gravity Research.

Brian Green and Laurence Krauss were both wrong and were about to go on a huge rant about it. +Aeroscience DNA. Your body is an executed program read from the compiling softwares called RNA holoenzyme polymerase and mRNA. Understanding how DNA works, how chromosomes work, understanding the genome and mapping the genome, all of that uses math. DNA is no different than old 1s and Os, except each of the tiniest pieces are two bits instead of one.

    What is people's problem with Richard Dawkins? A Tumblr post brought me to this video and everyone was giving him a bunch of crap. I don't see why. He didn't say anything bad. Can anyone tell me why so many people on that website don't like him? Because I think he's awesome. I get to do a biography on him for my science class and I'm super excited about it.

      Bobt Sims That's another thing that was weird. They loved Nye but hated Dawkins. They even acted like Dawkins disagreed with Nye for some reason, when they're really on the same page. It had something to do with the way he was sitting, I think. He was kind of leaning away from Nye and they said something along the lines of, "It's like Bill Nye has an aura that repels assholes." It's all nonsense.

    • @LunaticThinker
      @LunaticThinker Před 9 lety +51

      Richard Dawkins is sort of... abrasive. He's honest and he speaks his mind. When he sees superstition he doesn't spare feelings while on his way to pointing it out. It has attracted to him the ire of lots of folks (religious folks mostly) in the past. And for some reason the radical "feminists" seem to hate him, never figured out why but it's most likely on some bullshit reason like most of the things they get their panties up in a bunch about nowadays.

    • @AragornStarscream81

      Dawkins doesn't mince words, and tends to speak in a more calm and relatively neutral tone, as compared to NDT's or Nye's extreme enthusiasm. My guess is that those people on Tumblr didn't understand Dawkins or skipped past his chances to speak because they thought he was "boring;" in reality, while he's not the most enthusiastic or prominent member on that board, he has some of the best things to say.

    • @killerking471
      @killerking471 Před 9 lety +13

      Mattea Williams Yeah literally same, " tyranny is the deliberate removal of nuance ". The post on tumblr used a screenshot and the position Dawkins was sitting in to push an agenda. They presented the photo as if the two had disagreed. I think they just did it for popularity on that post, using bill nye the prominent,social figure as the american champion of " yeah woo equality!" and Dawkins was presented as the antagonist. It was just an opportunity to get some popularity on a post but im glad they did it because i thoroughly enjoyed watching this whole discussion.

    I think a lot of times when people say " i am not good at something" , sometimes it can be about the teacher too, i know i failed algebra in my high school and always thought i was bad at math, But i took physics in high school, and my physics teacher was passionate and loved to teach just like Neil and he made you interested and took the time to explain very well, i got amazing grades in that class and it was the most fun and interesting one i ever took in school. He always took 2 weeks to teach astronomy as well as he was a college teacher of astronomy at a local community college. He may have passed from this earth, but his legacy of teaching young adults good science will always be remembered! Thanks MR. FRED.
