Another one off my bucket list! I've always wanted to record a Hate Eternal song. My personal choice would've been "The Victorious Reign" but that one was not included in their best of tab book. Damn shame! So yeah, I got that tab book the other day. My guitar was still tuned to C# from a yet unreleased Decapitated thing, so I thought I should do that long overdue Hate Eternal song next.
I had four favourites from that tab book. Those were Powers That Be, Bringer Of Storms, Whom Gods May Destroy and this one here. I was thinking about doing a medley instead of just a single song, because all of them have parts that drag on a bit too much, but that would've been more work than I'd be willing to do right now. (Some other day!) Instead I decided to do a multi-camera-angle video.
I was already thinking about it when I was recording Decapitateds Winds Of Creation. That song is super fun to play but as a viewer I thought it was a bit boring in some parts. With different camera angles it would've been more engaging IMO.
So that's why I'm back doing multiple camera angles. Like in some previous videos it's "What you see is what you hear". It's basically three seperate playthroughs edited together. It's a lot easier and less time consuming recording those than trying to get an almost perfect one-take. IN THEORY.
Ego still got the best of me, so in the end I'm still trying to get one very tight one-take. Not sure, for some reason it feels wrong to just glue some incomplete clips together. So the front camera take is basically my main playthrough take that I spend most time with.
Another drawback, which I noticed afterwards: some parts are not as tight as want them to be. For different reasons. I was probably more chill about my playing because I knew I was going to have different takes. My guitars volume was also a bit lower in my headphones. I thought this would make it tighter timing wise haha. It's a very busy song and mix, sonically, which I actually only really noticed afterwards. And that brings me to the last reason: because I had a tab I didn't spend any time with the actual playing on the recording, so I didn't notice how certain things are articulated. Which basically makes it an even bigger mess lol
But at the same time, I'm actually sastisfied with the end result. It's a very raw and brutal band, and the playing should convey this as well. A low gain super tight kind of modern playing wouldn't fit as much IMO. And yeah, I have a lot of gain on my guitars here too. Though I think a big part of Hate Eternals sound comes from quad-tracked guitars, and not because they use a lot of gain.
I've already filmed another multi-cam video from a band I only recently discovered and immediately fell in love with. It's basically Stick To Your Guns but with actual metal riffs lol
Unreal work as always - Erik Rutan doesn't get nearly enough credit for how unbelievably sick and immediately identifiable his riffs are.

My favorite Hate Eternal track! I still remember watching the videos of Derek Roddy recording the drums back when CZcams was only a year old or so. I, Monarch is such a masterpiece of an album!

Side note/request for Kevin. A deep cut on I Monarch is Path to the Eternal Gods, which Is a personal favourite solo off the record. You can probably get it done in 15minutes 😉

these stacked tritons chords and octaves chords were used a lot by Kelley and Rutan in Ripping Corpse, that's very interesting

My fav part is still the black metalish blasts + super aggressive tremolo stuff at 3:18
Definitely!!! They have this super raw old school kind of fast tremolo picking, which is very close to black metal, but without sounding like black metal. It's still very much death metal. Super important album for me as well. Jammed it a lot in my late teens :)
Fun fact: this kind of tremolo picking is actually kind of hard for me to replicate because a softer attack, where you can't hear each note that clearly, sounds better but that's not how I pick haha
If you like this kind of thing, I advise you to listen to Vitriol. The guys play brutal/technical death metal like hate Eternal on steroids🔥

@@c0xb0x yeah you definitely have to set up your AND tune your guitar for that kind of playing, and then play consistently hard. But soft playing has similar issues with pitch drift. Though I'm pretty sure I'm not a 100% tuned to the same tuning. The song is C# and my guitar was in tune, and I'm still slightly off to the original recording. If you listen closely to the original you will also notice that there are a few detuned chords in there as well. For example, at 0:20 that chord is definitely off in the original recording. Spawn Of Possession have the same issues on Noctambulant. So yeah, you'll always be slightly off if you play with those records.
But tuning is something I take super seriously these days. My guitars are set up with higher action on the bass strings and I use pretty tight gauges so I can hit harder without going off pitch too much. I still sometimes hit open strings too hard haha, but it's something I definitely have in mind these days. Also, tuning-wise, not everyone tunes the same way. Do you tune to your attack or to the sustain of the note? That can already make a difference of 10 cents or more

It's Day 69 from Organic Hallucinosis. I'm still not sure if or how we're going to release it. I recorded it for a drummer who'll use my guitar tracks for his own cover video. He gave me programmed drums for tracking, and we both liked the demo so much, that we definitely want to use it. Maybe turn it into a full song cover with a singer. Not sure yet. He still has to record his drum video though

Just my axe fx II. It's also a lot of gain and I matched the tone of the original recording of that song. Then altered it a bit to my liking and that's it :)
Not sure if you're aware but you can use Moises AI to very easily remove the original guitar, it works flawlessly even with this track

It was either from 2008 or 2011, can't really remember. It's an RG350 with the stock INF pickups.
